Thread: HEAVY METAL DOFIGHTING

    Default HEAVY METAL DOFIGHTING

Great news for those who are fans of Heavy Metal music as well as all things WW1 - the amazing Mr. Bruce ****inson (lead singer with the band Iron Maiden as well as pilot, air enthusiast, fencer etc etc) has arranged for NINE WW1 replica aircraft to have a dogfight over the crowd at this years Sonisphere Music festival at Knebworth Hall on the 5th of July. Bruce will be flying his own Fohher DR.1 in the 'battle'. Now I appreciate that the likes of Iron Maiden and Metallica won't be to everyone's taste, but I am sure that there will be many locations near to (but not in) the festival site where one might great a great vantage point for what could be a great little show...

Thought it might be worth mentioning...

Dang! makes me wish I could still afford things like rock concerts!
Last went to Knebworth to see Deep Purple a very long time ago.
Iron Maiden and biplanes... what more could an old headbanger and WW1 enthusiast wish for.

I was at 'Download' last year when Iron Maiden took to the stage they had the crowd 'buzzed' by a Spitfire, all as the sun was setting - awesome.. (but not as good as Rammstein closing on Sunday night - utterly amazing)
I can't afford Rock festivals either but last year my kids clubbed together and got me download tickets for my 50th... NICE

Not a huge Iron Maiden fan (more Led Zep) but if they do stuff like this they get my vote!

    Cool news!
I was an Iron Maiden fan in my youth
Anybody knows they recorded a song Aces High, one of my favorite those days?

If you go to the concert, will you be able to video the flying display?

Don't see why not, everyone films the bands any way

Ha! Now thats a cool event and certainly will drag some attention on vintage airplanes, showing the fun things you can do with them

Personally I grew a bit out of iron maiden - interests and tastes change simply - but you just have to love something like this. Im looking forward some videos of the show

    Andrzej,

Sure we know, check also Sabaton, Swedish heavy metal band. They are recording songs based on historical events and heroes (aviation topics as well). Some examples:

    - Aces in Exile - song related to foreign pilots fighting in Battle of Britain (Polish, Czech and Canadian): here
    - Night Witches - song of soviet 588 night bomber regiment (female staffed): here
    - No Bullets Fly - The song about german fighter pilot, Franz Stigler, an airman who had an opportunity to shoot down the crippled bomber, but instead, for humanitarian reasons, decided to allow the crew to fly back to their airfield in England: here

You can find more on YT, since they have recorded already several albums, all packed with interesting historical stories.

Those white cliffs in the opening frame are the Seven Sisters with Cuckmere Haven to the left on the channel coast in East Sussex and a few miles SSW of where I live. There was an airfield on the cliff tops during the war - RAF Friston

Certainly worth checking if someone likes heavy metal and is interested in history of II WW.
