Thread: Pour me a Me 163 and a while you are at it, a Me 262!

Default Pour me a Me 163 and a while you are at it, a Me 262!

So, I had a night I could not sleep, kept thinking about diving in and making a completely new resin model of my own . . . where to start, simple of course. What could be simpler than a Me 163?

Scaled the 3=view to 1/200" scale and printed the top and side views on card stock, cut them out, traced onto styrene sheet and cut them out.

Cut a lap joint into them each and slid the wing into the fuselage

Mixed up some green stuff epoxy putty

Roll some snakes of epoxy, cut into long wedges . . .

Do some smoothing and squeezing . . . while that is hardening, and since it was rather painless, why not a second front?

Bits are glued and fitted together . . . formed with epoxy and set aside to cure,

Tomorrow we sand and carve . .

Some people are blessed with hands that a precise, wondrous tools... and others, such as myself, with hands of stone. I am continually impressed.

Once again, the master of all crafts amazes us with his sheer genius!
Well done, David! I imagine these are going to be masters to manufacture another pair of molds? And then production will begin in earnest?
Be careful though: lack of sleep isn't good for you... Try to get some proper rest between projects.

'Pack up your tools in an old kit bag and smile, smile, smile' How do you keep doing it David? Imagination, skill, elves at your command night and day, understanding wife, a time dilation device to slow down time outside of your workshop bubble.......is there no end to your acutrements?
See you on the Dark Side......

    The carving began before breakfast!

The excess green stuff is carved down to the white styrene formers, then carved to curve

And then the 262 met Mr Xacto!

Final sand and coat of thick CA to create fillet and fill the surfaces

Engines and tail bits, carving control surface grooves . . .

    Liking what I'm seeing!

More details being added as they cure . . .

Now where did I put the mold latex?

This "How to" gets better and better Dave. I am really looking forward to seeing the detailing go on.

    Dave, I applaud your efforts

Hopefully you are doing this as an exercise in resin casting rather than to have an aircraft nobody else makes, otherwise I would question the cost in resin and rubber to produce a few aircraft as AIM have both of these types listed as available soon. (I am assuming these are 1/200, if not ignore everything after the clapping )

Yes i am aware of AIMs fine offerings and will no doubt invest there someday, but the fun and fury of molding your own is intoxicating! Along with that "coming soon" is a phrase I have heard before but never bothered to find out what it means, I need to keep the elves elving or they turn domestic . . .

    Excellent once again, Dave.
You never cease to amaze me.
And I'm very happy being amazed by you.

And they are bedded down for the night in latex . . .

Tomorrow we pour part 2 of the mold, then we dominate the (rumored) Ares bomber stream!

Wake up time! The latex is set and the excitement builds! Peel off the foam core box sides and . . .

The mystery box emerges, needs a bit of trimming . . .

Then the mold is split! The elves rejoice! And the production really begins . . .

Pouring time! What? My night to make dinner? Rats!

    OH! Dinner?!
    C'mon!!
Don't you have an elf to make dinner?
    Or a minion?!
Those yellow little guys with a scuba diver mask on?!
    Ok...
    I'll wait... But...
    (Butt?!)
    Er..
    Er!
    Er! Er! Er!
    Butt?!
Er! Er! Er! Er! Er! Er! Er! Er! Er!

Dinner is done, the elves on the dishes so what to do? Oh yes!

    A bit of trimming is needed . . .

The details do come out, some not so good of detail, but what is a little filler?

Time to open the next ones . . . this is too much fun!

We refer you to the "well ventilated space" bit on the instructions to mixing the resin.

Well done Clipper, elves and pink elephants!
