Thread: Wolfram von Richthofen Painting Thread

Default Wolfram von Richthofen Painting Thread

This thread is a result of the other thread I started on Wolfram.
You can find it here: http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...hlight=wolfram
Since his plane is so mysterious, I thought a painting thread for Wolfram would be fun....to see what others come up with.

    So, let the fun begin.

My version is based on the silver and purple to have been rumored on his plane. A silver fuselage and purple wings. I started with a MVR plane from a duel pack. I thought I would use the same painted scheme. After starting the project, The silver did not look right to me in that scheme and did it similar to Lothars, plane instead.

The Fokker green and the red are Ares original paint. The Decals are homemade (Testors).

All of the colors where custom mixed. Did have a little bit of a hard time matching up the blue underbelly but got it pretty close.
Was considering painting all of the wings purple....I thought that would look cool as well but stayed with the green.

Even got his card done and currently working on a custom pilot card.

    Who's next?

Kelly I really like the colour scheme on your version of Lt.Wulfram Von Richthofen's Dr.I , I've finally completed my version of his Dr.I so I'll have to post a photo myself.

This is very cool, Kelly. This is the first version of Wolfram's plane that I have ever seen - didn't realize he had such a unique color scheme on his bird! That makes me want to do one of my own, and I have a few extra Dr.Is lying around at home...

That would be great. His plane is one of the more mysterious ones in relation to paint schemes.

A very nice repaint there, Kelly. For your reference, the blue colour you used (is the most probable shade, IMHO) and it is known as RLM 65 Lichtblau, isued by Revell No. 55, Humbrol 65 and Pactra RLM 65.

    Thanks for the tip mate.
My concoction was a mixture of Testors blue and olive drab with some Vallejo white.
Is Hellblau RLM 65 the same as RLM 65 Lichtblau?
    Found the Humbrol 65.
Any one of them better than the other?

RLM 65 is known as Hellblau, I made a mistake. Lichtblau is RLM 76 (a more grayish, late war shade used in combination RLM 74/75/76).
I personally love Pactra acrylics which are true historical colors easy to paint and dry very fast. Enamels are not my favorites anymore. Of course it is a personal choice.

Nice craft there Kelly and thanks for sharing. Hey Andy, would you happen to have Vallejo references for those colors. If not no big deal. Just curious.

    Thumbs up

    Very nice execution there Kelly.
What other J11 Dr.I's do you have?
Would like to see a Kette if you can post pics.

Thanks Barry! The other Dr.I's that I have done are in my profile album. Don't have a Kette but maybe someday.

Inspired by Kelly I am currently painting up my own Wolfram. I used no historical sources or color guides, so it may not be perfectly accurate, but it looks sweet!

Will post pics here when I'm done.

    Thanks for the inspiration Kelly!

Curious to see your Wolfram David, how far down the list is it before it hits the work bench?

Okay, I will step aside from the WWII program and time travel back to the Great War . . . where did I put my Wolfram notes . . . oh yeah, here we are:

Went with silver for the green and deep purple as seen here, red nose cowl and struts, so it was a quick repaint of a dual pack DRI

    Kinda liking it

Woops! The paint is still wet . . .

Very nice David for what you call a "quick repaint"....amazing.
Also like the solid color tail with the black cross.

Tip: If you blow on it the paint will dry faster.

These planes are definitely a lot of fun to paint. Especially in this case as you can personalize it to your liking.

I believe a couple of you other gents was working on one as well.
