    Default Revell Micro Wings

I've recently noticed these kits in the UK. So far I've only seen WW2 subjects but all the models are 1/144 scale and retail at just £2 per kit. I've not bought one but expect they are pretty simple models. Now just think if they offered their old 1/72 line in 1/144 and you could buy an unpainted, WWI plane for just £2.

I've emailed Revell about this and suggest that anybody else who would like to see the range expand to cover WW1 subjects also sends an email to:

No chance I'm afraid - this range comprises moulds from the late 1970s, not new tooling. They're very nice models, and have aged far better than most of their contemporaries, but they're not a new range, and any additions are extremely unlikely - there were 12 Japanese WWII types in the original range (although 4 of the moulds are rumoured to have gone missing or been destroyed) so a release of 8 or 12 Japanese types is possible at some point, but otherwise the current range is all we're likely to see - WWII only, 4 British, 4 German, 8 US.

Manure, dung, excrement, droppings, ordure, guano, cow pats, fertilizer, cow chips, road apples, horse apples, buffalo chips, cow-pies, cow patties, cow flops, scat.

Thus, I have had the last word on the "huge piles of poo" and we can go back to discussing the merits of Revell producing a line of 1/144 scale WW I planes.

Quite true sir. It does stink that there are no WWI kits to be piled on.

SRAM made some 1/144 WWI resin kits which are still occasionally available on Ebay.

Reviresco also makes 1/144 scale WWI planes in white cast metal.

Shapeways is a well known source of 1/144 scale WWI planes.

Valom is a Czech company which makes four 1/144 scale plastic WWI planes including the Fokker D.VII.
They claim that they will produce an Albatros D.V & a Fokker Dr.1 in the near future.

I'll point out that SRAM is a member on this site as well. So you can contact him directly.

Ah yes, I'm aware of the kits and Shapeways but none are quite what I dream off. The white metal kits lack the finesse of the plastic models – look at the wing profile… SRAM and Valom are designed for the modeller, less so the gamer, and the latter have flat wings with etched detail so the wings are less good than we are used to with our WoG models and the models far more fragile. Until Shapeways can be printed totally smooth they aren't for me.

What I was getting at is kits that are really just like our WoG planes on a sprue that don't take an age to assemble. There aren't many parts to a WoG model hence why I felt the concept fits the Revell Micro Kit concept. Revell's 1/72 WW1 planes were my preference due to the fact that they were easy build. It would be great if they could pantograph them down to 1/144!!

They're not great kits. The Hurricane and the Me262 were some of my first ever kits I bought back in the mid 1970's. You would be better off searching for more recent offerings by Eduard, Platz, F-Toys or Sweet models than these tired old re-run's.

Depends how picky you are, your budget, and to what degree they're gaming pieces rather than models. They're certainly nowhere near as nice as Sweet in particular, but they're decent little models, and over here a box of two Sweet kits will cost you at least a tenner, or you can have 5 or 6 Revell ones for the same price.

I picked up a load of 1/144th scale revel WW2 at a show. I use them predominantly for BoB campaigns as I have loads of 1/200 scale for PTO. I have also picked up 3 Heinkel III's, 2 JU88's, 5 JU87's, 7 Hurricanes, 5 Spitfires, and 5 ME109's in 1/144th scale. Oh and 1 Saviao Marchetti torpedo bomber. See my last 2 AAR's to see what they look like. (WW2 After Action Reports: Radar Station Scene 1 +2).
