Thread: My new perspective of the Halberstadt CL.II?

Default My new perspective of the Halberstadt CL.II?

When first announced the series seven included the Halberstadt CL.II I was indifferent to the new release. I already had all the Roland and Rumpler two-seaters. When I started to do some research on aircraft numbers. I decided to add the CL's which were orginally escort fighters to the fighter columns. This is what I came up with:

    31 Oct 1917
    Alb D.V/Va - 579
    Alb D.III - 446
    Pfalz D.III - 145
    Halb CL.II - 65
    Hann CL.II - 19
    Fokker Dr.I - 17

    31 Dec 1917
    Alb D.V/Va - 699
    Alb D.III - 423
    Pfalz D.III - 276
    Halb CL.II - 170
    Hann CL.II - 162
    Fokker Dr.I - 35

    28 Feb 1918
    Alb D.V/Va - 725
    Pflaz D.III/IIIa - 443
    Alb D.III - 357
    Hann CL.II - 295
    Halb CL.II - 224
    Fokker Dr.I - 143

    30 APR 1918
    Alb D.V/Va - 1059
    Pflaz D.III/IIIa - 446
    Hann CL.II/III/IIIa - 409
    Halb CL.II - 342
    Alb D.III - 174
    Fokker Dr.I - 171

    30 Jun 1918
    Alb D.V/Va - 695
    Fokker D.VII - 407
    Halb CL.II/IV - 351
    Pflaz D.III/IIIa - 302
    Hann CL.II/III/IIIa - 289
    Fokker Dr.I - 118

    31 Aug 1918
    Fokker D.VII - 828
    Alb D.V/Va - 327
    Halb CL.II/IV - 311
    Hann CL.II/III/IIIa - 293
    Pfalz D.XII - 168
    Pflaz D.III/IIIa - 169
    Fokker Dr.I - 65

Not only the models are great looking, the numbers made me realize how important the CL class was to the Germans.
I will be using the Halberstadt more often now and looking forward to the Hannover.

    The numbers are from Frontbestand.

No doubt. That and the D.H.4 are probably my two favorite WWI aircraft. I just have a thing for ground attack.

Those numbers are most enlightening John. I'm now glad that I got all three.

    Warthog! Beautifully ugly. :-)
I was supposed to have a game including all the new two seaters last night, but my pal had to pull out. The premise was based around evaluating the B/A DH4 as a bomber and the CLII's on an intercept. Heavy fighter battles' should be over pretty quick.

Probably no surprise that the P-47 Thunderbolt and Hawker Typhoon are my two favorite WWII aircraft!

The first time I saw one (thunderbolt 2) when I was a kid I was blown away, please excuse the pun. The phrase "milk bottle sized cartridges" has never left me. :-)

    An absolutely devastating weapon.

And I love the design philosophy. Ok. Here's the gun... now let's build a plane around it. Brilliant!

And make it survive flying through a mech divisions' worth of AAA!

That's nothing -- try walking along the gaming floor at GenCon wearing Groucho glasses (with mustache) and a 30mm training round for a cigar.

People will come from different halls to Look At You. :)

I am putting together a campaign and this is the sort of data that makes it even more fun. Great Job! Cheers! "Das Phantom" aka Wayne
