    Default New England Air Museum

The New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT had an "open cockpit" day last Sunday, so my son and I headed out for a quick visit. It's a small museum (comparatively speaking), but has some interesting pieces. Additionally, as its collection was devastated by a tornado in 1979... and once again thrashed by a hurricane in 1985... the restoration projects are quite impressive.

According to Wikipedia, some of the one-of-a-kind exhibits are:
    • The last remaining Sikorksky VS-44A "flying boat."
    • The Silas Brooks Balloon Basket, the oldest surviving aircraft in the U.S.
    • The Sikorsky S-39, the oldest surviving Sikorsky aircraft.
    • A Kaman K-225 helicopter, the oldest surviving Kaman-built aircraft.
    • The only Burnelli CBY-3 Loadmaster ever built, which is under restoration in the Museum's workshops.

Here are a couple of WGF-themed photos... a replica Sikorsky S-16 in Russian livery, a replica Fokker Dr.I, and a Liberty V12.

Good close ups like these are always worth their weight in gold to the avid painter like myself.
