    Default Flight bases

Funny the things that come to you in idle moments, has anyone ever thought of working out the firing arcs for aircraft currently not produced for WOG 1 or 2 that can be obtained from other sources .shapeways etc printing them out on paper then sticking them on the underside of clear plastic/ perspex which has a hole drilled through the middle for pegs thus giving you a flight stand . If someone has already come up with this one ah well great minds think alike, and fools!!!!!!!

I just started painting Shapeways planes and haven't gotten to the point of bases yet and like the direction of this.

Sticking to the bottom of the stand with printing up might pose a problem. Why not just print on label paper and stick to the top of the base? That would be easy.

When it comes to scouts and 2 seaters, the existing bases and AA generic ones are enough for most of the planes available Roland may be the strangest one, but supported). Giant planes of Shapeways may trigger this issue.
Below you can see my home made base with some carved and coloured arcs of fire that I made for my Staaken.

I suppose i'm thinking more along the lines of WW2 . If i could get bases with the firing arcs for the aircraft kits available in 1/144 then i could be tempted to dabble in the dark arts . But then that leaves the problem of the maneuver decks

I know Litko makes large bomber bases. I know companies make document holders that you may be able to cut to the size you want.

It occurred to me a few months back while doing some custom cards that incorporating firing arc/base templates into the paper altitude dials I do might be a good idea and I`ve been adding them to some of my more recent sheets.

One suggestion for use is to laminate them for strength then put them over the top of whatever appropriate size base you have available, just using a peg to hold them in place.
If you can manage it, it might also be possible to print the things onto acetate sheet giving a transparent template that could be used with the blank generic bases LITKO do or even just glue them to some thicker backing material to create a stand.

I made some bases by cutting an A4 sheet of 3mm perspex with a jigsaw then smoothed the edges with a modeling file.. It was quite a quick and easy job.
