Default A bad day for Jasta 63

13Nov18 Mistaking the Meuse River for the Rhine River, six aircraft landed near Stein and Limburg in Holland, led by Ltn.d.R. Emil Kiel. These
aircraft consisted of one Albatros D.V and the following Fokker D.VIIs: (OAW) 4001/18, (OAW) 2176/18, (OAW) 4144/18, (OAW) 4000/18,
and 4293/18. All aircraft were damaged and retained in Holland. The pilots were released in two days to return to Germany.

That is one bad day losing 6 aircraft.

Maybe, but since it was 2 days after the armistice, and all planes would be surrendered to the Entente anyway, no real loss to Germany.

Yep - the entire D.VII fleet was confiscated or destroyed as part of the peace settlement anyway, so no real loss at all.

Often after the War these pilots chose to damage their planes rather than turn them over intact. It was a last act of defiance. "Das Phantom"
