"Ok Hawkes the Big E is dead ahead, you've got her lined up good. Nice and easy now. Ok not far now" Ltn Bob Galer was talking his wingman down. Little realising just how badly his aircraft was 'Bird' was concentrating on his skippers words. Just a little bit more, gear down, flaps down, deck. deck Oh crap.......
The undercarriage under the port wing collapsed and the Wildcat went into a spin, only stopping when the tail section collided with the conning tower and snapping off. The deck crew managed to get 'Bird' safely out as the landing officer looked at the debris scattered all over his deck. "Now I'll have to clear up more mess before the next plane can land....Sir!" With that he left 'Bird' in the hands of the medics as he had a nasty gash to the side of his head and walked away.

A little while later Ltn Galer made a near perfect landing, despite the countless bullet holes his aircraft had accumulated.

    Ltn Bob Galer:
    Rolled: 6-1 (50% dam)+2 (Ace) = 7 'a finer landing you will never see'
    http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4668659/

    Esn Howard "Bird" Hawkes
    Rolled: 4 -2 (+50% damage) = 'aircraft misses 1d6 and pilot 1d3 scenarios'
    http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4668661/
    Rolled: 1 = miss 1 scenario

    http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4668663/
aircraft: rolled 6 = aircraft out for 6 scenarios.

    Thanks Neil!
Glad I have plenty more Wildcats to fill the void!

You know that's really amazing! I saw a film of Birds landing in a WW2 doco only a couple of weeks ago.

"Come on girl, climb, climb" Morrison willed the spitfire to climb to a safe altitude. Then the engine just died and as the spitfire pitched over backwards he slipped the canopy back and just fell out of the cockpit. He knew he had to fall a safe distance before pulling the rip cord. He could Wilkins and the Hurricane heading for home. He could also see the ME109 that had shot him down peel and dive away heading for France. Low on fuel he thought to himself...lucky me!
The explosion when it happened was far below him. He was glad he hadn't pulled the chord yet as the explosion would have damaged the chute, delicate as it was. His beloved Spit fell away in flames and splashed into the channel far below. 'No time to dawdle John me lad. Time to get wet. Morrison pulled the chord, checked all round and drifted down to a soft splash in the channel not far from where his plane had nose dived in, well what was left of her.

It took the rescue launch about an hour to reach him. Unfortunately they couldn't inform anyone of his safe return to earth as their radio was not working. To make matters worse they were heading inshore off France to pick up the crew of a bomber that had sent out a mayday before their radio packed in.

It would be some time before Lt John Morrison would return to his squadron but that is another story altogether.

    Flt Lt John Morrison: SD/Fire/sea
    rolled: 4-1 sea = 3 = bailed out WIA
