Default Wings of Glory: Dawn of the fighters (Scenario 2 - Combat Patrol Mission)

Scenario Two: Combat Patrol – By WWIflyingace

    1. As Entente Pilot:

    2. The situation:
The battle of Loos opened yesterday; reconnaissance is critical for both sides. Your squadron has been assigned the task of chasing away or downing enemy reconnaissance flights. It is now your turn in the rotation.

On a crisp clear morning 26 September 1915 you take off and head towards the front. As you near Loos you see a B.E.2c heading for home. Apparently it has just completed a reconnaissance mission. Unfortunately, it is being pursued.

You look to your wingman pointing down towards the Eindecker. He nods in reply so you grip the stick and head in!

    3. Entente Side:

    3.1. Entente Aircraft:
Two Bristol Scout fighters along with a RAF B.E.2c. Use a Breguet 14 as proxy for the B.E.2c; Nieuport 17/23 can serve for the Scouts.

    3.2. Entente Aircraft movement:
The RAF B.E.2c uses automatic movement rules. Your wingman’s plane uses Solo movement rules.

    3.3. Entente Objective:
Down the enemy planes and see the B.E.2c safely home.

    4. Central Powers Side:

    4.1 Central Powers Aircraft:
Two Eindeckers (may be type I, II or III).

    4.2. Central Powers Movement:
The Eindeckers use Solo movement system keying on the B.E.2c.

    4.3. Central Powers Objective:
    Down the RAF B.E.2c.

    5. Playing Area Set-up:

    5.1 Area of Play:
The area of play should be 120cm x 120cm or larger.

    5.2 Starting Positions:

5.2.1 The RAF B.E.2c starts one ruler to the left of the center line and three rulers from the Central Powers’ side.

5.2.2 The first Eindecker is one and a half rulers directly behind the RAF B.E.2c.

5.2.3 Your aircraft comes in anywhere to the left and behind the Eindecker.

5.2.4 On turn 1 roll a d6 and add to determine when entry (for example a roll of 1 would mean entry on turn 2). Your wingman enters on the left side of the map within three rulers of the Central Powers side. The second Eindecker enters from the Central Powers side within two rulers of the right map side.

    6. Winning Conditions:

6.1 Entente player wins the Scenario if he saves the RAF B.E.2c.

6.2 Central Powers player wins if he can shoot down the RAF B.E.2c and escape the map from the Central Powers side or have the only aircraft on the map.

    11. As Central Power Pilot:

    12. The situation:
The battle of Loos opened yesterday; reconnaissance is critical for both sides. Your squadron has been assigned the task of chasing away or downing enemy reconnaissance flights. It is now your turn in the rotation.

It is a sunny day on 26 September 1915 when you take off and head towards the front. As you approach Loos you see a Pfalz A.I heading for home. Apparently it has just completed a reconnaissance mission. Unfortunately, it is being pursued.

You look to your wingman for guidance and he points down towards the British planes. Nodding you grip the stick and head in!

    13. Entente Side:

    13.1. Entente Aircraft:
    Two Bristol Scout fighters.

    13.2. Entente Aircraft movement:
The Bristol Scouts use the Solo movement rules.

    13.3. Entente Objective:
    Shoot down the Pfalz.

    14. Central Powers Side:

    14.1 Central Powers Aircraft:
Two Eindeckers (may be type I, II or III) and one Pfalz A.I. The Pfalz is a Parasol aircraft; the Morane Saulnier L (available through Shapeways) makes a great proxy.

    14.2. Central Powers Movement:
Your wingman’s plane uses the Solo movement system while the Pfalz uses the Automatic movement rules.

    14.3. Central Powers Objective:
Shoot down the Bristol Scouts and see the Pfalz safely home.

    15. Playing Area Set-up:

    15.1 Area of Play:
The area of play should be 120cm x 120cm or larger.

    15.2 Starting Positions:

15.2.1 The Pfalz starts one ruler to the right of the center line and three rulers from the Entente side.

15.2.2 The first Bristol is one and a half rulers directly behind the Pfalz.

15.2.3 Your aircraft comes in anywhere to the right and behind the Bristol.

15.2.4 On turn 1 roll a d6 and add to determine when entry (for example a roll of 1 would mean entry on turn 2). Your wingman enters on the right side of the map within three rulers of the Entente side. The second Bristol enters from the Entente side within two rulers of the left map side.

    16. Winning Conditions:

16.1 Central Powers player wins the Scenario if he saves the Pfalz and has the only aircraft on the map.

16.2 Entente player wins if he can shoot down the Pfalz and escape the map from the Entente side or have the only aircraft on the map.

    21. Variant:

22.1 Play both versions as an Entente or Central Powers pilot. All rules stay the same except as noted below:

    22.1.1 Movement:

22.1.1.1 All NPC planes use Solo Movement.

22.1.1.2 Reconnaissance planes use Automatic Movement rules.
