    Daylight Bombing part2

After a nights sleep the 8th Air Force came back in force.

Three B-17-G`s and Three B-24J`s, escorted by two P-38`s attacked. Two Fw-190`s and two ME-109`s defended two factories and two airfields.

The bombers started three firing sticks from the factories, with a P-38 for escort. The Germans started over their own airfields.

Like the night before the Germans attacked the B-17`s ignoring the B-24`s. In rapid succession the Germans attacked the bombers, with much less success. Between the P-38`s and the bombers guns all four German fighters were brought down. One collision crippled one of German fighters and defensive fire did the rest. German reinforcements in the form of two ME-110`s came in. They and the flak brought down one B-17 over the target. Their glory was short lived as the target was destroyed and they were both shot down. Two more ME-110`s arrived and one of these finally attacked the B-24 as the droned on to their target. It was not the Luftwaffe`s day, both 110`s were soon shot down and the B-24`s survived the flak and destroyed their target also!

For the Loss of one B-17 , two shot up B-17`s , one P-38 damaged and one B-24 damaged the USAAF scored a decisive victory. Claiming 20 enemy fighters destroyed and receiving confirmed kills on 11.

We drew a lot`s damage chips in this game, none were returned to the cups. I have three sets we use one cup for each color. Only one boom chip was drawn and that was on the B-24`s bomb damage. Without it i would not have destroyed the second target.

This was a fun game. The Maximum effort of six 17`s and six 24`s was not called for!

Thank you. Did you notice my Lazy Man`s bomber bases. I have an order for some of the Litko heavy pegs and toppers to correct some of that leaning problem!

No! But now you mention it I do. I just thought you had them banking in an artistic way for the photograph.

Accuse me of anything but being artistic! I failed that licensing test decades ago! I was referring to the the large base that all three bombers are attached to. This allows easy movement and the ability for one player control multiple bombers.

    Nice little AAR, Richard.

Hard to blast away this formation of six big birds. Performed the Luftwaffe a frontal attack?

We definitely need rules for German (late-war) air-to-air rockets.

It was a matter of bad luck. The German fighters made good attacks, they pulled to many special damage and high point chips. To counter that the Bombers pulled 0 chips left and right. Collisions also hurt them. They did not judge the point to break away and come back around. By the time we get rockets the the late model 109`s and 190`s will pack a better punch. That will be at the August Convention!!!

They were more of a mortar, weren't they?

Those rockets were not very accurate but the damage made up for it!

There target was to break up the bomber formation.

Fired at the right moment - they were able to broing down one or two heavies and damage the others around.

Richard - a second view showed me, that you use triple bases for a bomber formation.

    Great idea!

Helps a lot to manage the formation movement for those four engined birds.

Did you ever play Lucas Arts Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe it goes back early 90`s. They had the rockets in some of the scenarios. They had the flight physics and damage of those rockets well done. If you hit a plane it was dead with luck you might get two in one salvo.

Those big bases came in handy. I will do a how too post in the soon. I have some heavier flight pegs on order, they will take the lean out the tall ones.

For shure I played SWOTL, Richard.

You had all the special weapons to fight those bomber formations.

...and I like to fly the B-17 in this Game.

Very nicely done. Were the airfields a secondary target?

The Factories were the prime targets, the airfields secondary. The Germans had no idea what the target was!

That makes flying my 144 scale bombers so easy. Easy to make from Acrylic photo frames from WalMart. I have switched to the Litko Heavy Duty pegs for the big bombers. I special ordered smoke and flame markers last year, they are a standard items now.

I agree with Richard, group bases for bomber formations make the gamer play much easier.

One player has the ability to fly three or four large bases. Much easier than one at a time bomber moving, i know!
