Nice Neil. I'm jealous, I ordered the new trench mats back in May and still don't have them!
Nice table. I like the clouds on the sides.

Is there a solo dmg app still working? My link stopped working.
There was one in excel and one that was a link (one gave dmg for a,b,c,d counters) and the gave directions planes depending on the clock position. But mine stopped working.
Returning to playing Jan 2017. New planes are not just calling - but screaming! Yes, it' a lot of scenarios - but why have the plane if I'm not going to fly them!
488th RNZAF (9/1/41) - Singapore - to become 14 RNZAF (3/2/42)
DONE
16-Jan-1942 Warmup CAP - (Rowley arrives – 4 japs strafe Podunk field – Noel Sharp defends. Noel KIA – 3 jap downed – Rowley ok – lands – plane out a bit
17-Jan-1942 Warmup CAP (RTB – hvly dmgd – pilot ok – got a kill!) Sqd Leader vs 2 Jap
19-Jan-1942 Scenario 1a: Sleeping Giant - RNZAF defend Singapore harbor (Jan-42): Gloster Glad (x1) & Buffalo (x1) vs Ann/(Vals) (x2) (2 planes shot down – pilots ok – back for Scen 3)
22-Jan-1942 Scenario 2a: RNZAF defend infantry from Japanese attacks (Singapore Jan-42): Gloster Glad (x1) & Buffalo (x1) vs Nate (x1) & Oscar (x2)
TO DO:
22-Jan-1942 Scenario 2a: RNZAF defend infantry from Japanese attacks (river & causeway – british back across bridge) (Singapore Jan-42): Bristol BeauFORT vs Nate (x3) The first six Australian built Beauforts reached Singapore just after the Japanese invasion of Malaya in December 1941. One of these was attached to Air Headquarters, Singapore as a special reconnaissance aircraft; this Beaufort carried out one mission, during which it was attacked by Japanese fighters and returned to base to be written-off. It was soon decided that the Beauforts were under-armed, with insufficiently trained crews and the five remaining Beauforts returned to Australia (Depending on the Mark/model, this plane had a single wing mounted .303 MG and the rear dorsal turret with a single .303 MG. Successive "improvements" had a twin .303 swivel mount MG in the nose, a twin .303 MG in the rear turret, and even some added beam-mounted single .303 MGs just forward of the rear turret. And lastly, there was a remotely operated, rear ventral MG, but it was often removed in the field as useless.)
28-Jan-1942 CAPa: RNZAF vs Betty ---By the time of the invasion, only ten Hawker Hurricane fighters of No. 232 Squadron RAF, based at RAF Kallang, remained to provide air cover to the Allied forces on Singapore. This was because the airfields of Tengah, Seletar and Sembawang were in range of Japanese artillery at Johor Bahru. RAF Kallang was the only operational airstrip left; the surviving squadrons and aircraft had withdrawn by January to reinforce the Dutch East Indies.
5-Feb-1942 CAPa: RNZAF 1 vs 3 – Marlet vs ??? (returning to base – has to go length of the board)
9-Feb-1942 Scenario 3a: RNZAF defend evacation of Singapore:
Planes left in squadron (+1 hurricane) against Ann/Val (x5) & escorts as needed. Jan 27 – Hurricane arrived from HMS Indomitable (MOST planes available Scen 3 from today (Buffalo 339-E/Glad/Martlet/Beaufort) & 5 pilots)
On the morning of 9 February, a series of aerial dogfights took place over Sarimbun Beach and other western areas. In the first encounter, the last ten Hurricanes were scrambled from Kallang Airfield to intercept a Japanese formation of about 84 planes, flying from Johor to provide air cover for their invasion force. The Hurricanes shot down six Japanese planes, and damaged 14 others, for the loss of one of their own.
Air battles went on for the rest of the day, and by nightfall it was clear that with the few aircraft Percival had left, Kallang could no longer be used as a base. With his assent, the remaining flyable Hurricanes were withdrawn to Sumatra. A squadron of Hurricane fighters took to the skies on 9 February, but was then withdrawn to the Netherlands East Indies and after that no Allied aircraft were seen again over Singapore; the Japanese had achieved complete air supremacy.
When moved to 14 RNZAF (they get Kittyhawks & Martlets)

1st AVG (China) (1941-mid 1942) transferred to 11th Air Force (Fort Glenn AAF in Umnak, Alaska to Cover Dutch Harbor Naval Base) (mid 1942-1943)

Scenario 1c: Sleeping Giant - FEAF defend Clark Airfield, Luzon (12/8/41): B17C <& P40?> vs Betty G3 & A6M2 (airfield/fuel tanks)
Scenario 2b: AVG attack Japanese infantry (2nd Squadron - Thailand against JAAF - 12/31/41 & 1/1/42): P38 & P40 (Ace) vs Nates (x3)
CAPb: AVG P40 (x2) vs Ki-21 Sally (x2) (12/23/41)
Scenario 3a: AVG defend Rangoon & Yangon River (12/25/41): P38 & P40 vs Ann (same as Val)(x2) & Oscar (x2)

Looking forward to the New Year myself Mischa. Been away from the AAR's too long.
See you on the Dark Side......
Hoping to re-start my campaign here soon, well once the undercarriage is ok and I can stand for longer periods.
See you on the Dark Side......
That might rekindle my interest a bit Neil. I am a bit fed up with soldiering along in the Malta campaign with no one else trying out the Scenarios.

Don't start back until you are truly ready. We don't want to see any excuse for further R&R.
Well I have a few jobs I could get on with whilst I recover some more:
Neil's to do list:
1. Build 7 Japanese laser cut buildings.
2. Paint the remaining Bolt Action Germans (20+ infantry, Tiger I & II, PAK 40)
3. Finish off special project no 1 now I have the missing part! (Cheers Neil aka Sparky for coming to the rescue).
4. Finish off the aircraft for China 1938 at Doncaster.
5. Paint the other 100+ aircraft I need painting.
6. 3 whole corps of 15mm Confederates and 1 corps of Union troops.
7. Finish off my 15mm Roman and Carthaginian armies.
8. Re-base and finish off my 6mm German and Allied units.
9. Put together the bits for the 1/200 Ryujo project.
10. Go to bed (Oh I am..What now dear? What do you mean the typing is keeping you awake? Ah...I see, If i don't want to see my planes actually fly out of the window I had better do as you say! Ok, point taken. SWMBO has spoken and must be obeyed. Damn 1-9 will just have to wait for another day).
See you on the Dark Side......
15 mm ACW armies Neil! You never told me.
I have a few of those boys.
Rob.
"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
ACW was what got me into wargaming (nearly 50 years ago )
I just had the Airfix figures. They have pretty much slept in the box they were packed in when I moved to the states in 2000.
Probably nearly 40 years since they actually spent time on a battlefield.
Give us a look when you have them done.
Thanks, Rob.
Brings back memories.
That's nice scenery you play on.
(and I recognize that backdrop from somewhere ...)
Whatever happened to the third film they said they would make after G&G and Gettysburg

Shame. Only saw Gettysburg.

Maybe I will dig Gods and Generals out again next time SWMBO is away. Only watched it once (and that was quite a few years ago).
But Martin Sheens Lee in Gettysburg was something else IMHO

Anyone else read the book The Killer Angels it was based on?
I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings

I read Killer Angels in middle or high school, or probably both.
What a coincidence. I am reading "Gods and Generals" nowadays (Battle of Fredericksburg chapters). Next two volumes are shelved. GG and Gettysburg are among my beloved movies. Soundtracks are exceptional.
BTW: what a scenery, Rob!

Once Doncaster 2017 is out of the way I will be kick starting my own Fire in the Skies missions that I still have to play.

Is kicking a good idea with your new hipsters Neil

Sue and I listened to the soundtrack from Gettysburg on the way back from Origins - beautiful score that brings scenes to mind. We were driving through farmland with wooded boundaries, etc. - hard not to envision battles or camps.
Beautiful pictures, Rob. All my ACW gaming has been hex-and-chit wargames.

Yes, a great part of the movie.
The soudtrack is thrilling. I was sold to it the first time I watched the movie intro with the old photos.
Now reading the last volume of the saga: "The Last Full Measure".
I try to track the links about Ron Maxwell's promises about the third movie to be made... but are there any news American chaps? Maybe you know more there? Any gossip?
Once I was linked to a trailer of The Last Full Measure, but it was fan made. Not official.
By the way, Paul, the very best musical part of Gettysburg to me is:
Battle of Little Round Top.
I was reading about Chamberlain's charge and was picturing the movie scenes...magnificent.
But the very best soundtrack of the saga so far to me is this:

Has the weather improved then Neil?

"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Today it did but lots of other things to do today, pre op assessment and work unfortunately; might get them done over the weekend if the weather holds.
See you on the Dark Side......
I have placed the planes on the table. A scenario is prepared, and I reread all the rules last as a refresher. I hope to revive my campaign(s) on Friday or Monday, but we will see. It was ambitious, but I believe doable. Just need to focus my time and spend less time channel surfing mindlessly.
The 3 units we follow are:
The RNZAF 488th has 4 more sorties until Singapore falls. Then reassigned to the 15th in Mar '42.
The USFAEF (Phillipines) and the AVG (China/Burma) are raring to go, they have 5 sorties planned between them, and then they get relocated to Alaska in '42.
We haven't even reached the US entries - the air groups of CV-8, the USS Hornet. Their entry into the war is planned as a 2 fighters catching up to the rest of the group on their way to the Doolittle Raid , when the Fighters encounter an IJN Emily headed to Pearl Harbor the March of '42 second attack!

It seems ages since I've been able to get my head round wings stuff but things are improving.
To that end I would like to restart the Fire in the Skies campaign with just the Battle of Britain theatre to begin with.
Would all those interested please state which side they would like to fly for, Britain or Germany and if they would be willing to write scenarios.
I would like to start this campaign in January with any volunteers willing to write and publish scenarios with general/broad guidelines as follows:
(Of course it is impossible to cover the whole of the BoB in just 12 scenarios but I hope it will give just enough flavour and scope that it will lead on to other campaigns.)
January to cover: (1 scenario)
26 June – 16 July: Störangriffe ("nuisance raids"), scattered small scale probing attacks, armed reconnaissance and mine-laying sorties.
February to cover: (1 scenario)
From 4 July, daylight Kanalkampf("The Channel battles") against shipping.
March, April and May to cover: (3 scenarios)
17 July – 12 August:
Daylight Kanalkampf attacks on shipping intensify through this period. (1 scenario)
Increased attacks on ports and coastal airfields. (2 scenarios)
June, July and August to cover: (3 scenarios)
13 August – 6 September: Adlerangriff("Eagle Attack"), the main assault; attempt to destroy the RAF in southern England, including massive daylight attacks on RAF airfields.
September and October to cover: (2 scenarios)
7 September – 2 October: The Blitz commences, main focus bombing attacks on London.
November and December to cover: (2 scenarios)
3–31 October: large scale night bombing raids, mostly on London; daylight attacks now confined to small scale fighter-bomber Störangriffe raids luring RAF fighters into dogfights.
