I seem to have accidently ordered some Mk1 Spitfires, Hurricanes, Bf109s and Stukas, so I may have to give the WGS game a try
Just clicked we doing WW2 as well or instead of WW1 ?
I will be attending Salute. At present, I expect to be there as a part of my re-enactment group display, and thus would only be able to help with WGF in a few short stints. If, however, it turns out that my re-enactment commitment falls through, or is not required, then I will of course be available all day on a WGF table.
I am happy to share the cost of a badge.
Whatever happens, see lots of you there!
Sounds an excellent agenda for the day Steve.

Here is my thinking for WWII to avoid ending the day with a lot of lost damage chits etc.
Scenario is bombing raid on the docklands - mat is on way as shown earlier - 4x3. I will have some info printed on cards for display.
Three 111s will fly down the table dropping their bombs on targets as they go - these will be Aerodrome member controlled. Once they are shot down or leave other end they come back on.
Punters will control one of 6 hurries or spits and will have the model and the card deck. They will only put down the card they want to use that turn and then reveal and move to enable quick play.
Shooting will be done by the players saying what they are shooting at and what damage is caused. ALL chits will be pulled by an Aerodrome member and ALL damage to each plane will be told to the player and recorded on a dry wipe board. The punter will not need to have anything but will know how well their plane is.
Once shot down punter's plane will be reappear with someone different controlling it (they may stay in game again if no one is waiting).
thinking that I will make certificates for the players who play ( I flew in the defence of London type thing) and ones for those who shoot down a bomber. This way a 2 hour slot should get through a lot of participants. If we have more punters we can add a fighter escort.
Rich
Sounds good to me

That should maintain a good throughput, and minimize loss of chits as you say Rich.
Good thinking that man.

The WW1 marine game is coming together worryingly well. Brandenburg KDWs, W12s, W29s, Albatros W4s taking on Sopwith/Fairey Babies, Felixstowes, Hanriots, and Short 184s. Guest appearance by a Zeppelin Staaken floatplane apparently. Targets arrived today in the shape of a Langton German coastal sub and torpedo boat, and there is always the submarine scout for the huns to pot at.
I am hoping that my terrain mat from, er, Terrain Mat arrives on time. It's one of their B of B mats but with a bit more water, which will look a bit more sensible than all the floatplanes flying over Ares land land mats. It will also do duty for Battle of Britain and Sails of Glory later.
By the by, has anyone got a couple of Keith's Farman bases that they can spare please? Happy to pay for them or replace when Keith has some more in stock.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
I have a Sails of Glory mat which is all water and fits in with the coastal WG mat nicely. It has dark map like lines on it but one hardly notices them to be honest - we use it in our coastal BoB games. Will bring it if your other doesn't turn up if you like.
How close is the colour match to the coastline one Rich?

Thanks Steve.
I won't waste my money getting the miniatures then.

Hi Just had a thought, what is parking going to be like for Salute, particularly cost?
is there a reduced rate for participants?
Participants should get free parking John.
We always used to.

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end...... (apologies to Mary Hopkin)
Unfortunately those days are long gone, now no free parking. It costs £15 a day for the privilege of parking at Excel, and it might be worth mentioing that I know of 2 other shows there on that day, so parking could get a bit tight if you leave it late.
http://www.excel-london.co.uk/visiti...ravel-by-road/
The Docklands Light Railway stops right by Excel so it might be worth parking further out if it is cheaper and using DLR.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Watch which way you come in too so you don't get hit with the congestion charge.
See you on the Dark Side......
This gets better and better.
So now some of us have to not only pay to get in to support the show and help it make money, but also pay for parking as exhibitors, or hump our stuff half way across London, and pay for tickets on the DLR. That is the ones who choose not to pay congestion charge or hotel bills for the night!
I know we are all mad in this game, but we ain't raving are we?
Rob.
"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Well from my hotel in London its 3 trains to the show! A one day commuter ticket is what I need.
See you on the Dark Side......
I have planned to come down to the M25, round to J30/31 and in via A13.
£15 for London sounds reasonable, though it may cost FO Kyte at the bar
I'll be in Guildford by then so I'll get the train in, just be limited to one case of aircraft
O.K.

Bit harsh on Rob there. He has a good point. I am looking forward to running the WWII game (and have spent 35 quid on the gsme mat for the day) and giving up most of the day apart from maybe a quick look round. I have had years of 15 quid parking just to demo or help out with Wayland or Gripping Beast. But I would at least expect to get in for free yet it seems people who are going to help out for half an hour or so means we will end up paying to get in.
So I think Rob has a fair point and sort of hope you guys were kidding although it didn't read as such. As his wingman I am swooping in to watch his six.
Rich J
I took it as the sweeping generalisation it came across as - mate. Haven't met anyone who turned up to help in a forum game stick around for just a half hour or so and don't believe I ever will - just covering their six - see you there !
If my comment sounded harsh it wasn't meant to be so. It was an honest suggestion. There have been a number of times that I've looked at the expense of taking part in shows at distance and come to the conclusion that, in that case, its not for me. We are not paid to promote Ares products or the Aerodrome, we are doing it because of our love of the system and our desire to see others take it on. I can see why event organisers limit the number of freee tickets to their events - in the NWS we've been stymied in a few cases by limited numbers of freebie places. And it is, after all, their event os you do have to abide by their rules.
That said, I can see a clear justification, where there are limits on free attendance, for an Aerodrome game organiser to apply some appropriate criteria on deciding who should get the freebies. hinsg like scale of effort and distance/expense in travelling would, I tink, be justifiable criteria. If its costing one an arm and a leg to get there and someone else is just popping down the road then, at the very least, it would be nice for the person shelling out on time and money for a long journey got some offset.
Right, let's sort this out.
I might also have come across as somewhat abrupt in dealing with the issue of a 15 quid parking fee. However, I judged it in the light of the fact that just to put on one game at Salute I have forked out £122 on a game mat more suitable for a marine environment than the Ares mats, and a similar amount on Shapeways planes and other bits. To me that sort of gave the parking fee a bit of perspective. And I've done this because I wanted to, not to promote Ares as the chances of them actually supporting us at Salute are slim to f-all. Having said that, if I upset Rob then I sincerely apologise for doing so.
On a personal note, yes I do think the S.L. Warlords are taking the piss expecting games organisers to have to fork out parking to make their show look good. A subject I give forth on, on a regular basis with the Warlord members that are also members of my club. Unfortunately, that's the way it is. And I can't think of any other show that charges a tenner to get in either.
I've contacted the organisers and found we should have got 6 badges not 4 - the badge monitor screwed up so we have 2 more to come. Let's be absolutely clear here, I had no intention of subsidising anyone who was just going to turn up for a game then disappear again. I thought that sharing the cost of additional badges for those willing to stay around would be an equitable system, but apparently not.
Therefore, having looked through the past posts it seems we conveniently appear to have 6 people (including moi) who have said they are prepared to man the stand throughout the day (subject to lunch, look-rounds and pee breaks), and for whom I shall reserve a badge. These are: Me, Chris (Boney), Rich (RichJ), Neil (Skafloc) and Rob and John, who I hope will look kindly upon me and agree to still come. Everyone else is obviously welcome to pile in during the day.
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
I feel that I must make reply to my fellow pilots and Wingmen.
Both to those of you who criticized my posting and those who rose to my defence I say this. It was never my intention to cause a split in our ranks, more a criticism of a system that rips off even those people who try to support it.
I will willingly pay the admission fee in full. It was the fact that parking was being charged to exhibitors which rankled. In over 30 years of putting on shows all over the British Isles, never once have I been charged for parking, and that includes the N.E.C. Sheffield Arena and, Milton Keynes Super Bowl to name but a few.
As far as spending goes, we all contribute in our own way. Over the last year I have bought an extra games mat which will never be used except at events, a banner at £60 0dd quid or so. Made a portable display table for our wares, and paid out for posters, medals and flags to adorn the display tables. This was done to make us look like a professional body who cares about the image that the Drome sets out to portray to the public and organizers of events. We all know that we will never get reimbursed for any of these things. We simply do it out of pride in our hobby and the Drome.
What I was carping about (and I do like that turn of phrase Gunners, because that is exactly what I was doing,) is being treated like a humble suppliant who is prepared to go to any lengths to appear at the show.
I once met a Film Director who thought that about me, and that is why this posting is not coming from Hollywood.
To all, let me just say that in this case let the show go on, and I will try my utmost not to rock the boat again. Well not for a bit at any rate.
Rob.
