Thread: Which is your favorite WGF scout to fly?

  1. #1

Default Which is your favorite WGF scout to fly?

Just wondering if you had to pick a single scout plane to fly in the game, what would it be?

  2. #2

    Default

Tough choice, made tougher by the fact that I've not been able to get my S-S D.IIIs into the air with any regularity. As such, I'll take the SE5a... every day, and twice on Sunday.

  3. #3

    Default

Have to go with the Camel as a fave

  4. #4

    Default

My early favorite is the Fokker Dr. I.

Fokker and Camel dogfights have been a lot of fun. I have to say I have used the Albatross planes quite a bit.

I just picked up SE5a's from the Aerodrome store just before Christmas....suppose to be the fastest.....haven't got them in the air yet.

Still experimenting with lots of different planes.

  5. #5

    Default

Yep, it's a tough choice. Mine came down to not only how it flys in the game, but how much I like it in general. I'll take a Dr.I thanks.

SSW D.III for me. I love its look, and the movement deck is quite nice, too.

I've not been able to fly any of the new planes, so could not even consider them at this point

  8. #8

You need to fix that right away!
I started playing them pretty early, with an official card and an unofficial plane, that's how much I like them.

SE.5a. While I like flying German aircraft more often than not, the SE.5a brings it all to the table. Speed, maneuverability, toughness, and inflicts A Deck damage.

Perhaps break the poll into periods or years as I have my favorites for the early war.

  10. #10

    Default

Of all the planes I have flown enough to have a decent idea of their capabilities, I am very fond of the Fokker D VII. It has a nice blend of speed and maneuverability, and I really really really like the stall/turn and sharp turn cards.

I like this idea... early, mid, and late war... that way I can pick all my favorites! Well... at least, more of my favorites...

But than it would not be a tough/fun! Besides, it says you have to just pick one. lol

Surprisingly I did not choose Dr.I
In our current OtT campaign I usually fly against French opponents using SPADs XIII. These kites are deadly, if used properly. That is my plane. Tough, fast and durable. A real Jug of the Great War!
I should capture one and repaint it for the German service

They are giving me a beating as well. You've got to love that speed. I have seen it make the difference in a few games now. I have a growing respect for it.

I like the idea of captured repaints. I have several from the WoW card decks, so the idea of doing this with minis would be pretty cool. Another project for Sue.

I was struck by this idea while preparing a plane for the Nieuport painting contest. My repaint was outclassed by some magnificent paintjobs (yes, this is another opportunity to recall the stunning fish-camo Nieuport ) but I truly love my black plane It looks quite German, so to say, blowing my own trumpet!

    That's beautiful work, Andrzej.

You have me thinking now. Not only would such planes be cool to have on the table, the narratives and missions that could be developed would be quite interesting, I believe.

Camel for me, but my second choise would be the Sopwith Triplane.

Albatros DVa - the COLOURS, man!!!! Loads and loads to choose from.
Also, a real challenge to fly against superior Entente models (SE5a, Camel, Snipe etc)

DR1 for me. With limited playing time ( once a month if I'm lucky) I have best games flying a DR1

  25. #25

I have to go with the Dr I. I haven't flown all the other planes enough to good feel for them. Camel is great as is the Snipe.

I voted for the Camel due to my perchant of flying the "Hearts of Oak" Squadron but I really love the SE 5a "the mount of Aces" as per another thread!

Don't have any of these yet....looking forward to the reprints.

But Herr Oberst, there is no Roland's in the list

Suppose Sopwith Triplane then, not the Ares variety though , nope not letting go on this

The Fokker D.VII for me (if I could choose only one - I'm glad to be able to choose many).
A thing from my early days.
    A beautiful plane.

    Cause it's not a scout

Fokker Dr1, always. Fell in love with it from the first time I saw it. It flies well, can hold its own and when it doesn't it dies spectacularly well too. What more can you ask.

I try to fly all the uncommon planes just to see how they hold up. My son only picks the common one like a DVII or a DrI or Se5A or a Camel. I get shot down a lot! If I had to chose just one though, I would probably fly the DVII.

Has to be the Dr1, not the toughest plane out there, but fun to use

SE.5a, I do not know why, but it suits me well. On the other side, I can not fly with SPAD XIII - I have never won a game with it (but I like how it looks).

I don't really have a best of , but I tend to use the DR1 more than anything so voted for that.

Yes, official planes with minis only. And I think that MvR flow a Roland with out front guns, right?

Ok, I had to go with the DH-2. Sure it's slow and lacks much firepower and doesn't turn but I just love the early planes.

No I know it wasn't the Aussie cricket team, they been too busy pooling the jelly from the English teams spines, yes we were that bad.
But the one dayers start soon. Hopefully we will put up some sort of fight this time Baz

Hated having to pick just one, but I've been loving the D.VII since I started flying it. If I could choose more than one, the SE5.a would have been a choice, as would the SS.DIII & the Nieuport 28.

I like how the Dr.1 handles, but the lack of speed kills me, & I love to looks of the Albatros D.V & the Spad XIII, but the lack of maneuverability is infuriating.

It is hard to pick just one, but I have to go with my faithful D.VII.
I did fly the S-S D.III last weekend, and the O deck is a dream, and it climbs like a scalded cat. Might be changing my favorite sometime soon

I picked the Nieuport because I enjoy the period during which it was used and because it was a favorite with Albert Ball.

Sopwith Camel - no question, Herr Oberst!

3 x Camel curves, enough hitpoints, great desing, etc...

I've got a Kissenbert Camel, so I can fly this bird for the Central Powers, too.
