Battle over the 4
Cpt. Richard Bernstein (Light Camouflaged British RAF S.E.5A) stops Uber Lt. Chris
Richards (Camouflaged German UFAG C1) from taking captured aerial reconnaissance photos
back to the Fatherland. The failure due in large part to the follies of the German
observer who missed 3 shots on the enemy entirely. See below for the full story.
Uber Lt. Chris Richards was concerned as he read the latest intelligence
report regarding enemy capabilities. Not only were the sightings of a fast and highly
maneuverable new Brit aircraft confirmed, but Uber Lt. Chris's request for, at minimum,
an additional UFAG for support and redundancy was declined.
He was told that German resolve was sufficient support.
Uber Lt. Chris shook the morning’s thoughts from himself. He was
flying in at 4K feet and descending to 2K (the altitude requested for this
batch of photos). Command was debating whether a bombing run was to be
justified this far into Brit territory.
Just after leveling off and beginning the first of the 3 photo runs, Uber Lt.
could see the unfamiliar shape of the new Brit aircraft he had just finished
reading about that morning.
He missed it's take off roll all together, and as he saw its banking speed, he could
see why. This Brit machine was the un-natural amalgam of speed and maneuverability,
and it was closing on him and his observer quickly.
The Lt tapped his observer who was new to the unit and new to the
Luftfahrtruppen all together. He gestured toward the approaching craft and wondered
if his observer would be kind enough to begin shooting?
The observer began fumbling with the B gun and was paying little attention to the
position of the Brit aircraft. The Brit blasted past at full piston while being
careful to keep close and avoid fire. The Brit was running recon of his own.
The Doppler was followed by the defensive tappings of the observer's gun...
T T T T... T T T T T T T...
Uber Lt. Turned to see the observer's perplexed look and the Brit machine banking
behind him, undamaged.
Up until now, the Lieutenant's plane had not been hit to the point
of visible damage, and his UFAG could still run at full "s&^%$" PT PT PT PT...
PT PT PT PT PT... PT PT PT PT PT PT PT PT PT PT...
The Brit's super plane had jolted into the position of the UFAG's blind spot, and was shooting
up the shop window... Snapping cracking chips flew at the Lt... He could feel the solid
prang of several rounds hitting the engine block...
Then nothing but Doppler scream, followed by T T... T T T T...
T T T T T T T...
The Lt. looked over the edge to see what was left of his machine. The covering was
torn to the point of exposing his aircraft's shredded interior; while he could see his observer
had again missed the attacking aircraft completely.
The petrol flowing down the other side of his fuselage had ignited
with fanning flames, which were burning his rudder sluggish.
His engine had also began stalling after each breath.
The rudder seized and without the ability to maneuver, Germany's fate now sat in the
observer's seat behind him. This observer who had offered little more than the panicked
spattering of B gun fire, had again begun firing.
The Lt. thought to himself "in the unlikely event that I ever see a stein of beer again,
this observer is surely to be punched in the face."
The undamaged Tommie aircraft slowed, almost mercifully, set up his final approach and ignored
the misplaced shots of the Lieutenant’s observer.
While Britain insured her shots, and before Uber lieutenant would lose consciousness,
he laughed out loud as he considered the poop in his observer’s pants.
