    Default Avro 504 - From Fiddler's Green

    I've built this Avro 504.
I was thinking about making an How To but this model is so easy to build that I decided not to.
My ongoing campaign is still in the final months of 1915 and I need some more earlier war planes since I only have (for this period) Morane Saulniers N, Fokkers E.III and Be2c's. Now I can make some early war bombings.
And the 504 is one of my favourite biplanes since my childhood.

I've mounted 2 Lewis guns on him.

The distinctive "toothpick" look is amazing.

Now I must print the card.

He's begging me to take him to the air.

    How can I deny it?

    Sunset 1915.

Looks great! Are the guns paper as well? Store bought? Crafted with some other material? They look fab in any case.

I need to do some Arvro's & Be2's for any upcoming early war action, but have just started on more late war planes to augment my collection, so that upcoming pilots can have different airplanes & I don't have to recycle the same ones as often.

    Thanks Rob.
The guns are brass with a roundel made of paper.
I need to make the pilots. Still haven't found a good solution.
Tomorrow I'll make another 504 and then I'll try something bigger.

Well done, Joaquim. What a great addition to a collection.

I am impressed with the level of talent on this site.

    Blackronin,

I have just "discovered" paper models and really enjoy doing them. I have downloaded some from Fiddlers Green. At what % do you print the pdfs to get 1/144 scale?

    Hi Antony.
Typically FG planes are at 1/60. If they aren't they have a WSAM = % . If you print them at that percentage you'll get 1/60.
What you have to do is know the correct scale that they're in the pdf and then see what % you'll have to reduce them to get them to 1/144.
Let's think of one that is at WSAM=80%

This means that 1/60 is 80%
    and 1/144 should be x.

    So we'll multiply 80% by 1/144 and we'll divide by 1/60

    1/144 equals 0,0069
    1/60 equals 0,0166

    (80 x 0,0069)/0,0166 = 33,25% hence you'll have to reduce it to 33% to achieve a scale of 1/144.

I hope I've been clear. If not I can explain it further.
Or if you have doubts just tell me the plane you want to reduce and the WSAM and I'll do it for you.

    Cheers!

    Indeed it is.
Anything you need. Paper, folding, gluing and painting and I can help, don't hesitate.

What glue do you use? I have had problems with the non-flat sections, waiting for the glue to set. My only option is to hold the pieces by hand for 5 mins or so...but I am sure there is a better option.

BTW, I usually use pilots made by Shapeways, although I have just also ordered some from Reviresco. Some other person swear on Peter Pig, but those are a bit expensive. Shapeways pilots are very light, so that should work well with the paper model.

Another amazing model Joaquim! By now, the easiest models i've made where from this site:
    http://recursoswargames.wordpress.com
Their models are the same from the WoW series but as they are directly 1/200 scale they're awfully easy to make.
Although WWI models are still difficult and only the Camel can get out of the table. Anyone know how to desing models? Probably no, but its worth asking.
    Thanks

Antony: Try to use fast drying PVA glue. After some seconds it's dry. If you want it to take more time to dry, add a small amount of water.

Nick: Thanks. I know that models, but I prefer to reduce others and then build them.

They have too much details. I found a guy (Bruno Vanhecke) that has EVERY plane you can think in 1/144 if my memory works. But its some small scale. He has some for free and the others for 1$. Pretty good and esay models.
Now to find the link. If im correct his internet name is scissors and planes and he is very active in the papermodelers forum.

Heres one of his models. Pfalz Dr.I. Sorry for the low qual.
    Thanks

    Found it:
In post 3976 theres an PDF with all his models. If you want one, send him a PM with the name and the numbers of the planes.
You will see that the main focus is WWII. But apparently he accepts encomendations (?).
