Should've done a RECON for RECON (I can say that can't I...read on).

Well setting off in plenty of time, so we thought, Guzzi and I arrived at 09:45hrs (a trifle late I know) to find Chris, Trev and Simon sitting around waiting for the second coming.

In no time at all Kaneohe Bay was set up, aircraft laid out, mission briefs read and we were off.

(The next portion of this communique has been censored so as any copyright will not be infringed)

So you can see from the pictures we all had a fantastic time. A pity to leave really. My thanks to Chris for leading us through the WGS game sequence, Chris for flying solo against the enemy many times, to Trev for trying the torpedo rules twice and Guzzi for the excellent photo's and being shot down twice but taking out most of the PBY's in the crashes.

    See you soon.....just joking above.

    ...... ... ...... ........ , apologies but can't print that due to reasons

But, can't take the credit for the sequence, that was Simon, but I did take out two Jap aircraft with my Warhawk, and in the second game dive bombed the Yorktown and caused enough damage to help take it down.
Really good day, the new banner was really impressive.
Can't post pick cos I forgot my cameras, hence the censored words at the beginning.
Enjoyable couple of games thanks gents, cheered me up and now over everything.

(which we actually found after the game ended so technically I didn't forget them, just where I had put them)

Apologies Simon/Chris had 2 minutes to log on and post before I had to take swmbo to Newcastle for her works party. Oops is Newcastle copyright, sorry Chris now I'm totally confusticated. There I go I said that N place again. I'll try better next time.

    Neil

PS: Great laugh at the start, especially as Paul (Guzzi) hadn't a clue what was going on with the conversation.

    RECON 2013 - SHOW REPORT.

Apart from the mishap delay in getting to the venue we started nearly on time with Kaneohe Bay 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbour. The Japanese attacked Kaneohe Bay 8-10 minutes before the attack started at Pearl Harbour proper. The gallant defence of the N.A.S. (Naval Air Station) was conducted by Boney10, a very energetic young pilot and Myself. (Pics to follow). At the end of this attack the score was:

    Boney10: (commanding 2 P40's)1 Val and 1 Zero.
    Young apprentice: (flying 1 P40) 1 Val.
Skafloc: (commanding the ground AAMG and the B25) 1 Zero (an erstwhile and brave naval rating who manned the mg to the end) and 1 Kate (fore gunner in the B25)

2 Zero's commence their run down the lines of parked PBY's (RT centre) 3 P40's wait to join the fray (Top left). Simon's Val's come in together (Left centre) and Trev's two Kates split left and right (bottom centre). MArine barracks top centre, N.A.S. Right side, Light Blue are the fuel tanks, Black top building the 2 hangers and the white between the repair workshop. 'H' is the hospital and just below it the ammo bunkers. To the left are the three 155mm Panama mount guns. bottom 1 on Pyramid point the other 2 covering North Beach. 3 PBY's can just be seen in the water and 24 PBY's are lined up wing tip to wing tip.

Paul begins his Zero ground straffing run. Each Zero picked a separate line and both were sot down towards then end of the line taking out the end 3 or 4 PBY's in doing so.

Chris: (commanding the Val dive bombers) - 2 hangers (Primary mission) 1 of 2 oil storage areas (secondary mission)

Paul: (commanding the Zero ground attack) - 16 PBY destroyed, 4 PBY's badly damaged (out of 27)

    Trev: (commanding the Kate torpedo attack) - 1 freighter sunk - 1 tanker sunk - 2 PBY's badly damaged - 1 B25 damaged.

Japanese success. All Primary Targets destroyed and Secondary Targets damaged or destroyed.

Game 2: Sink The Carrier. (Set in the Coral Sea).
The Japanese have located the Yorktown, 2 destroyer escorts and 3 merchant ships. Mission SINK THE YORKTOWN.

Chris (Zero's and Val's) looks on as Trev(Kate's) and Older Rookie pilot (1 Kate) place their movement cards. Simon giving some expert advice to the Rookie. (Our banner at its first official outing too)

The CAP are trying to get back in the fight. Both torpedoes miss (AHA) the Yorktown but the tanker is now in the firing line. 1 or the merchants has been badly straffed by zero's and the 2nd Val is beginning its attack on the Yorktown.

Right on the money, Chris hits the Yorktown with a 500lb (50 points damage) and hits A turret magazine! Double damage, plus another fire started. (Yorktown had now lost 300+ damage points out of a max 331!).

The Yorktown falling to fatal damage starts to roll over and sink. Both torpedoes that missed her actually missed the tanker too. A badly damaged merchant ship is trying to put out a cargo fire (left picture)

We called a stop here. The CAP were last seen heading off looking for the Lexington and the Surviving Japanese planes headed back to the Shokaku.

Chris: (commanding the Val dive bombers) 1 Val shot down - 1 Yorktown Carrier 121 damage.

Chris: (commanding 2 Zero's) 1 Wildcat shot down - 1 merchant damaged 18 points (max 25 damage points).

Trev: (commanding 3 Kate torpedo bombers) 1 Destroyer sunk.

Rookie: (flying 1 Kate torpedo bomber) Shot Down - 1 Yorktown Carrier hit 212 damage.

    Victory for the Japanese.

Two last things before I go:

A big thank you to Chris, Trev, Simon and Paul for making this an outstanding day. Above all we had a laugh, got the attention of a few people who were constantly taking photo's of the game and 2 two new players who had a ball playing WGS.

Lastly a very big thank you to Trev for an excellent addition to my WW1 collection, a marvelous and expertly painted Taube. Thank you and you know I don't just mean for the Taube. A true wingman through and through.

Great commentary on the scenario Neil.
Only wish I could have been there to help you. Not that you needed any help.
Also thanks to some very thoughtful editing, I did not even need to sharpen my blue pencil, let alone use it.
My thanks also go to those who supported the Squadron Leader on the day.

Very nice AAR & pictures ! I am already considering AIM planes, but basicaly the planes I have to convert to other theaters of operation. But now, maybe I will make some american and japanese squadrons for carrier battles.
