Thread: Stow Maries Aerodrome

    Default Stow Maries Aerodrome

Saw an item on the news this morning about Stow Maries Aerodrome near Chelmsford, which is apparently the last WWI aerodrome in the country. It was closed down in 1919 after the war and was used for agricultural use until recently but is now being restored to its former condition. The aerodrome was home to 37 (Home Defence) squadron RFC. A lot of restoration work is taking place on the buildings and also vehicles. There are photos of a camel landing there for the first time in 90 years in the gallery. Looks like it might be worth a visit.

Yep, watched that too. A really interesting news article. What they have planned for the site looks really impressive. I hope it becomes a great success as it is the only WW1 airfield left intact (virtually) in Britain.

Do you think it would be a good place for an Aerodrome get together?

I think there is a pretty detailed thread on this already?? I seem to recall it from some time back... but don't have the time right now to try and find it.

Would certainly rate getting in touch and putting on a demo/participation for them.
