Same group of DVII, can't get my decals to work
Same group of DVII, can't get my decals to work

All laser prints are waterproof (or at least sufficiently water resistant for our purposes), so no sealing the sheets after printing is needed. Just make sure you only use decal paper designed for laser printers in them - attempting to fudge it with a sheet intended for inkjets will likely result in the decal film melting onto the printer's fuser module, destroying the decals and not doing the printer much good either....
Gotcha , cheers Dom
Chris, just be aware that the toner is often the expensive part. If you buy a new printer it often comes with half full cartridges and a set of four replacements can be around Ł150. Another thing to look into is that it prints ok on 170 gsm paper (Crafty paper thickness). My plan is to only use the printer for decals and hope that the toner (ink) never runs out. I've got a a Samsung CLP-365W and the end product is amazing.

Cheers for that Ian, I have Cannon multi function for card and documents.
If I can persuade SWMBO the laser will be for my decals only
Three heavy coats of Krylon Triple-thick Crystal Clear Glaze, followed up by some Army Painter white primer. You wouldn't even know this is WSF.
Agreed, that really does do a job on the WSF's graininess - unfortunately Krylon don't distribute it this side of the pond afaik - it only seems to be available from an odd couple of suppliers, at inordinately high prices (circa Ł15 a can....), presumably imported privately. I guess I'll keep brushing on the old Johnsons Klear....
I've been using three coats of the acrylic floor finish (brushed on) followed up with one coat of Rustoleum Clear Gloss (sprayed). Then I gloss it again after the paint. And again after the decals. Not heavy gloss coats, just regular.
Getting this level of smooth on WSF...
I believe that it is a mistake to try and get the super smooth finish at the beginning of the process. It should be something that you arrive at, at the end of the process. On the SPAD above, notice that if you look closely, you can still see the aileron line detail through the roundel decal. The detail was still there until the very end of the process. You can't really preserve the detail if you are hitting it with super heavy gloss coats before paint ever hits the model.
Just my opinion.

That is pretty darned nice - I go for a similar level of smoothness, but find it takes a few more coats - will have to try the mix of brushed on and sprayed on layers.
With any luck, I'll be able to finish the gun bus and the HP 400's before Thanksgiving. Only had them around since March.
That is one nice paint job, Dave! Wish mine came out that clean.
Production on schedule at the Fokker factory. It took a while to get the lozenge right around the struts on the first test monoplane. Now I have a template the others should be much easier.

Guntruck, thanks for the lozzie decals, they came up a treat
Nice Blog Dave.
Some of the other items on there were very interesting also.
I did like your armoured train.

I had a little free time on Saturday. Decided to do a Jasta 10 Fokker DVII flown by Arthur Laumann, actually I'm doing two of them. Might sell the extra on e-bay or something.
This is my first foray into a nearly all decal model. It has been a new experience. I'm not quite finished with them yet, but I'm pretty pleased with the results so far.
I'll post more pictures of them in the Painting and Shapeways threads when they are done.
Sharp looking as always Dave. If I ever get the Nieuports I ordered that UPS "delivered" I'm hoping mine come out nearly as good.
Thanks!
That sucks that your order got "lost". I've been pretty lucky. My normal UPS driver lives just down the road from me. I take a lot of sports photographs of his kids. He is really good about tucking my boxes as out of sight as possible when he delivers. Or if I know I'm getting a high dollar delivery, I can send him a text and he'll "deliver" it to his own house and then run it down to me when I am home later in the day. He did that for me on a $2500 camera lens a couple months ago on a day when I was out and it was raining.
Hopefully UPS or Shapeways will make good for you.
