Sort of looks like the hydraulic section of a dive flap (?).
If so maybe an Dauntlass ?
That looks like a sodding great .50 cal in the middle & a piston of sorts on the right and top left is what looks like the leading edge so I'd say that is where the wing folds up - I can only guess which plane it is, think it's possibly a fighter so I'll plump for a Corsair.

Al... I must admit this one has me stumped...
Flash was right on the folding part of the wing, but it was a trick question really, as the aircraft in question was the AM-1 Mauler which while developed during ww2, didn't really get to the fleet in time and was just another leftover around for the next war. Not quite as good as the Skyraider (spad or sandy) but it perhaps tried to be too many things, and apparently never saw combat as the 151 produced were sent to the Atlantic fleet while the Skyraider was in the Pacific. By 1953 it was phased out as the pilots preferred the Skyraider, as did the mechanics.

I'm not so sure about the Mauler being "the most-powerful single-engine aircraft ever produced":

Only five built before the war ended, but still....
