Great new thread with great new aircraft.
Thanks chaps.

For the Kindness of Strangers opening chapters - The I-16 dressed with Republican colors.
These are AIM planes. Lovely and full of spirit.
The Red nosed is Joaquim's plane.
And the other two?
The little "Mosca's" were wonderful to fly. It means fly.
The international squadron wanted them. The Spanish Nationalists called them "Rata", a rat.
The Russian called him Ishak (the same sound in Russian as I-16) and it means donkey.
And the Finish called him Siipiorava (Flying Squirrel).
Great looking models, Joaquim. And thanks for the etymological lesson... had no idea they were referred to in such a diverse and colorful fashion.
I had I-16 for the Spanish Civil War, but I also wanted the Russian "Little Donkeys" for the third phase of "The Kindness of Strangers" campaign. These are the excellent Shapeways I-16. So here we are:
The photos don't do them justice.
They have smoke dirt over the white.
Soon they will see the battlefield of invaded URSS and the reunion of lovers.
Great birds Quim.
I am going to have to go back and re read the story to get back up to speed on this one.
Rob.

Excellent. Cast by yourself? Can you give us more information on that?
Joaquim,
I make these planes and they are available for sale.
See their page on my website: http://www.petersplanes.com/avions/i16/i16.htm
Thanks, Peter. Excellent site you have there.
But on WW2, I'm on to 1/200.
Keep it up!
Those are great looking paint jobs. Well done everyone!
Very nippy looking beasties.

It is really hard to match the quality of the paintjobs here in this thread, but - anyway - those of mine are just gaming pieces prepared to please Prague Con 2015 participants So let me present my last soviet Ratas in summer and winter camo. Please note the excellent decals sent me by user prymus, who deserves a and a for his generosity. The schemes are generic, but close to original ones
They can be seen in action here

These Ratas are beautiful, Andy!
They deserve REP!
Brilliant job! I specially like "Victory" one
Even more nifty looking aircraft Scott.
Although not my period, I can appreciate the paint jobs.

Hello All!
Just thought that I would add a couple of pics from my conversion projects.
Here we have a captured I-16 type 10 in Nationalist Service during the Spanish Civil War. This is a Re-paint of a Chinese I-16 from Axis & Allies Angels 20...Sorry!
Top Hat, Dice and all insignia were hand-painted by me...hehe...I need to make better decals...time for a laser printer...Yikes!
Cheers,
FF
A very nice repaint there, . I like A20/BH system very much as well
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
very nice
Thanks ptownhiker and all!
I am especially proud of the Dice adding to "Seven" on the tail...They mean I can still paint 1/200 and 1/100 scale, even at my age with no magnification. I am starting to wonder how long that is going to be the case, however.
Thanks for looking and for the words of encouragement.
Cheers,
FF
These are beautiful, Neil.
No REP ammunition for you...
Inspired by cards from WoW Revolution in the Sky Squadron Pack, I made these two I-16.
Models by AIM. Home made decals.
My early works three years ago. Since then I learned how to make white numbers better.
I'm planning to paint up some of these myself. Where did all of you get your decals? I looked around, and I couldn't find 1/200 red stars anywhere.
Thanks for the REP Adam. Armaments in Miniature have good quality VVS decals - http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/armamen...lemarkings.htm
Those are great paint jobs. I have 6 AIM I-16's but haven't taken any photos of them. Mine aren't as good as you guys but I will post them later.
The I 16 is my second favourite plane after the Hurricane. I've recently been trying to research the Khalkhin Gol conflict where these went up against the Japanese KI 10 biplane and KI 47 fighters. Struggling to find a lot of detail but a source for the Japanese models would be great. I've just read a book on the development of the I16 but it doesn't mention Khalkhin Gol at all.
Fantastic pictures from everyone by the way, are they 1/200 or 1/144?
A decent book on Khalkin Gol with some color plates is in the book reviews 'HERE'.
I have a Ki-10 and I-153s from Shapeways, Ki-27s, Ki-21s and Ki-30s from AIM.
Thanks for the info, I'm off to find that book.
Peter beat me to the punch. I was going to you about what he said. He didn't say however, that he is running a game based on that battle at COLD WARS next month. Between us we will have a substantial force. He has mentioned this book and did a review on it so now need to get it.
Also check out MISCMINI's thread (the Market section). He has a number of decals. I have been using his since he posted his site in here. Just did 4 planes (different ones) today and have to take pictures of them.

Great paintjob, Peter. The recess lines in black change their look superbly.

Thanks Andy. Sometimes I question myself about doing this for the underneath as they are almost never seen.
