Thread: Card-Stock WW1 Models

    Default Card-Stock WW1 Models

Silly question: Does anyone make WW1 acft. models out of cardstock, a la _Pirates of the Spanish Main_?

I've never actually built one, but I've been signed up to Fiddlers Green for a while now. I believe they have some SPADs and Fokker's available. Like I said I've never tried it, but I'd love to give it a shot.

Take a look at some of my AAR's to see some in action.

No, nothing like the pirate of the main. if I'm thinking what you meant.

I think Chris is talking about the thin foamcore ships Wizkids did

If so, I think the answer is 'no'

Might not be that bad of an idea, they would be great for the under "10 & below" groups, I.E. CUBBIES!

Some 2.5D WW II models here: http://www.geocities.jp/old7type/hanger2.html

A Fokker Dr.1 and also some WW II models here: http://www.paper-model-airplane.com/model-downloads

Junior General has 2D WW I planes: http://www.juniorgeneral.org/index.p...t/early20th#44

The CUBBIES have a desire to finger, roll, bend anything in their hands.
Consequently, the cardstock will need to be reinforced with: superglue, clear spray, etc.
Even then, I doubt that cardstock models will be able to withstand the abuse from the CUBBIES.

Let us know how this project works out.

Bingo. This material, or the stuff credit cards are made from.

There is a thread on PaperModelers.com about hardening paper models:

http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...epaint-Project shows something similar to what I'm thinking of here -- an undecorated cardstock model, with stickers for various paint schemes (I'm hopeless with paint).

Fiddlers Green has undecorated (white) models of WW I planes.
Try it and let us know how it works out.

*Nods* That's what I used to make the "General Lee" SPAD featured in my last couple AAR's. I put it in GIMP, colored it, & put the images of the decals on it & then printed & built it. Essentially somewhat of a digital version of what Chris is thinking of.

    I've tried paper models.

    "That's Not Gone Well."

Hence the desire for something a little more sturdy.

You could always try styrene like I did. I'm a lot more pleased with the results. I'm into a Spad XIII now, & still getting the same excellent results I did on the Nieuport 28.

For that, I'd have to get my build-and-paint area together -- and that's going to be a while.

Your call, of course, but I don't have any such area to call my own. Just a small tub full of all my tools, glues, etc & a cutting mat. I work on the couch, at the kitchen table, in the floor, in bed, you name it. Where ever I'm at at the time.

I have cats -- one of whom is part-Siamese. Between floating cat-hair, and excessive inquisitiveness, I need a room of my own. :)

Ah. Gotcha. I've been pawed at many times in the past. Unfortunatly, I'm not in a situation where I can have a cat anymore.

It isn't me who gets pawed -- it's the minis, the paint, the glue, and everything which Teh Hooman is paying attention to instead of the cat....
