Ordered lots of D VIIs, two new Snipes.
Not sure about the two seaters, as I have two each of the Nexus planes. I figure I will have some time to sort out whether I want them.
Now, I just have to wait until... July?

Uh oh. Better start with the bombers but I do need a few DVII's and I don't think a Snipe or two would hurt. Though I'm sure that's been said before.
DVII for sure, maybe snipe or2, not sure about the rest
Nice first pictures, Herr Oberts.
The planes look fantastic.
The Rolands will fill the gap of German two-seaters for the gamers that enter with the early war planes and continued with Albatros D.II.
Nice!
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
Well, well, well, very nice schemes and planes I must admit. The second Snipe bears rather regular UK markings fortunately, so we are really given a single Russian schemed craft, which is interesting.
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
The Rolland looks the same as the original NEXS ones, so I will not be getting any of them. However the 3rd DH4 grabs my attention and I will be getting that! with Sven's ideas for repaints of the Fockker DVII and the Russian Snipes is leading me to a period I was not considering gaming, but the Dark Side is calling..............
It's the DVIIs for me.

Join us and together we can rule the skies over Eastern Europe, Doug There is a great deal of opportunities for repaints and mixing aircraft of different sides in aerial combat (Snipe vs. Spads, Brisfits vs. Camels) or letting American volunteers to fly German planes against Russians flying British ones. Just amazing, not saying - fantasy - but quite real aerial warfare. Plus cavalry strafing, quite unusual over the Western Front (sorry horse fans ).

Actually about as far from desert as possible - it was one of two DH4s painted and outfitted for a reconnaissance of the Kiel canal. The mission was scrubbed, and least one of them ended up with extra Lewis guns, used for anti-zeppelin patrols. Zoe did a good thread on painting a model that way a while back:
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...-A-DH4-Repaint
I think the rolands will be in addition to mine, maybe I won't need to finish painting them. and the DH4's. So the snipe doesn't see much action then, I'm not surprised that late in the war. Still looks like a bulldog on steroids, chewing stinging nettles covered in p*** though

Great model, Zoe

More on Kazakov. It's an English translation of a Czech version of a Russian original, but readable nonetheless.

And for Sapozhnikov - in Russian, so use Google Translate - http://airaces.narod.ru/ww1/sapojnik.htm
I don't have good pics of all the old Nexus Series 2 planes, but here are a few side by sides:
Roland C.II
The only one here that is the same is MvR's plane. The Walfish paint scheme has been replaced by the standard green and brown this time around. The green and purple are actually different paint schemes as seen in these photos
Airco DH.4
For these we actually get 3 new paint schemes. The AEF has the standard green/tan paint scheme, but different markings.

As many of you, bothered by my frequent questions, already knows, I am making a WWI card game called "Wings of War". It is translated in several languages. The Russian publisher Thenolog will make it in Russian soon.
To make things easier to local publishers, all game materials except for the rulebook have no writings. Apart from airplane cards, that have the name of the pilot plus rank, unit and air service in the language of the air service itself. See exaple in the illustration - so they do not need to be translated.
The game is about 1916-1918 air war so far. With one of the next supplements we will cover the Russian Civil War and a couple of Polish invasions in neightbouring countries too, 1919-1920.
These planes will be in a blister that will be released soon.
Looks like Fokker D.VIIs and the 50th Aero D.H.4 for me! The Snipes look nice, but just not enough actual WWI usage for me.
I have not played for a looong time but that is not a problem, I can just collect them all - I have no idea how many planes and balloons do I have nowadays, I just expand the air fleet every time when there are new planes or schemes coming. Very handsome new schemes, indeed!
Well drat. I just got decals ordered to do a 50 SQN D.H.4 repaint of Irwin Bleckley's plane. I've also repainted N9000 of RNAS 5 already, so it looks like I am money ahead on this series.
Ordered six D.VIIs, two of each.
Heads up - I'll be needing a how-to on how to lozenge the inside wings of these beasts!
I wish the IRS would give me my money back so I could buy planes!!!
1. Get some lozenge decals of the right type.
2. On a piece of plain paper, trace around upper and lower wings.
3. Cut out templates using this outline, and trim to fit neatly.
4. Mark on the templates where the struts are.
5. Cut the lozenge using the templates, then cut chordwise where the struts are, and "herringbone" the edges.
See http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...l=1#post105908
Getting round struts is surprisingly easy. Just cut the decal where the struts are (approximately), then make tiny herringbone-type cuts in the edge, so when put together it looks like a zipper.
--+++-+++-----
When placed on the wing, it will look like this
--O++-+O+----
Note that in the diagram, one strut wasn't quite centred - they don't have to be using this technique, you can measure by eye.
Name: struts.JPG Views: 150 Size: 6.0 KB
For really tight places - such as between the fuselage on the Aviatik and the top wing, between the cabane struts - just use a dark grey paint, it's in shadow anyway. If it's light enough to see a pattern, it's open enough to put the decal in.
Don't be afraid to cut the decal into strips and put it on 5 sq mm at a time in very tight places. Joins are invisible if they butt. I used 2 strips on the upper surface of my D.VIII undercarriage. Took less than a minute, after wrestling with a 1-piece decal for half an hour and giving up.
My order is in and waittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttting for planes in July.
Thanks for the quick how-to, Zoe. I might try experimenting on some husks in the next few days...
Going for a couple of D.VIIs and a DH4. I already have more Snipes and Rolands than I know what do do with
The 'original' AEF DH4 was a Marine aircraft, while this is a 50 Sqn USAS bird. The RAF DH4 in 'Kiel Raid' cam is an interesting choice; pity there were only 2 of them, the raid was never launched and the engine fit is incorrect. I'm sure the 5 Sqn RNAS (N6000) bird will be popular though.
Just placed my order!
Yeh me too;
went for the 50 SDN DH-4, as I have lots of Nexus DH-4s for repainting (mass bomber missions!)
Also the Keil mission DH-4.
A couple of the FAA Rolands to add to that collection; nice thing about Rolands is that you can escort bomb-carrying Rolands with 2-gun Rolands, and be quite period (and rather effective against Nieuports).
The 2 Russian Snipes for some post-war and what-if action. Can't let Andrzej fly there alone
And LOTS of D.VIIs. (but only 1 white one, to fill out the collection).

Yeah Karl, I see lots of D.VII repainting in your future! lol Thanks for the order.
Well just checked the repaints again and the one's I have so had to order the new paint jobs. OH WELL. Keeps me out of trouble. Besides its just 8 planes that I ordered.
I focused on D.VII this time, especially the white ones. Although I already have Nexus "Goering", this time the whites will be used for Polish and Soviet "1920" repaints
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Great to see the images. I shall be ordering: Sachsenburg and probably two Goring's for repaints.
The Fokkers will sell out very rapidly, but I'm not so sure that any of the others will.
Its of course a bit of a tricky edition. One fighter hardly saw any action, the 2-seaters are not really matching - but all in all I'm sure the sales of the D.VII will outweigh the shortcomings of the other models.
OK, I'm confused: Which ones are the new paint jobs?
Go to post 393 - that's all the new stuff. For each type in the photo, the one on the left is the reprint, the two on the right all new. The one exception is the DH4, where even the "reprint" American one has different markings, but the same basic colour scheme as the old Nexus version.
I can see myself buying all three DVIIs (I only have the one), the DH4 on the right (the other two are awful) and one Roland.
I will pass on the Snipes as I have the past three and they receive very little use. As noted (above) it really is too late.
They might get more use when the Fokker VIII appears as that is from the identical time frame and balances the Snipes somewhat.
Slipping already? ARES Games - Upcoming Products
Now July for Series 2 Reprints?
Mike
I will be if I see any in July.... (Come on universe, please prove me wrong. Please....)
Wow, nice distraction attempt universe - 5 minutes after posting that, the nice man from UPS knocked on my door with my first Shapeways parcel in a couple of years. Quality *vastly* better than my last order, and now I'm totally distracted from Series 2 reprints by a nice little pile of mostly 1916 stuff....
I've been told July is a pretty good estimate.
It probably is for your side of the pond, but I'd be amazed if Europe gets them by then. It has happened, but not often, so fingers crossed....
