Thread: Friedrichshafen FF 49

    Default Friedrichshafen FF 49

These guys are very nice and delicate minis! Much has changed in the Shapeways progress indeed!

Gave them my two coat process, this time in silver which filled even nicer and the silver shows the pores and places that need sanding and a bit more paint quite nicely!

Then to pick the colors, one has to be in lozenge, but it appeared some were just silver/grey with a few with solid colored fuselages, so one got black and the other silver and burgundy . . .

    And together

I should have enough for an assault on a carrier or two now!

    They are totally magnificent David.
I am very prone to the odd sea plane myself.

Very nice. I have just received an FF.49c in my latest Shapeways delivery, so it is very handy to see some painted examples :-)
I do have a query though. Which movement deck do you use?
In the "Available kits" data, the FF.33e is XC, while the FF49c is listed as a G.

The question is, could the FF.49c do a loop/Immelmann maneuver and if not, would you class it as a G* deck instead?

Certainly seems to be the case here as well. Of course, now I have to decide which ones to get... so many options.

The Friedrichshafen FF.33E (the FF.49's younger brother) looks to be a nice model, though I'm hoping to see some Hansa-Brandenburg float planes (W.12 & W.29) available before the holidays.

So they have something to harass, I'm looking at the Donnet-Denhaut D.D.8 and/or F.B.A. Type H flying boats. Though, to be honest, both the SPAD XIV and Hanriot HD.2 might find their way into an order.

Mental note... make more floatplanes for myself and others.

So lovely that someone resurrected this thread, David! Beautiful planes (but then I am partial to German float planes...) and a beautiful job on them.

These are definitely on my 'to-get' list...

    All the best,
    Matt

I found a photo of an FF.49C doing an upwards half loop. Hence G rather than the Y (former G*)

    Nice looking planes, Dave.

I can't find a decent line drawing of the plane on line, though.

Sorry, memory failure . . . Seems like it was featured in a cross and cockade issue a long time ago . . . not even sure I still have the planes . . .
