Default Official Heinkel He 51 painting thread

One of my favourite inter-war aircraft, these Heinkel He 51 miniatures are 1/200 Shapeways FUD by kampfflieger. I have painted them in early Spanish Civil War colours - RLM02 all over. Decals are home made.

    Nice job Carl.
The decals show up really well on that Grey Green, and the surface finish looks super smooth for a Shapeways.

Thanks Rob, the FUD is a bit pricey but only takes one coat of lacquer and gives you a nice smooth painting surface.

One more pair of SPanish Civil War aircraft to go this month - a couple of Fiat CR.32s.

I'm glad to see the recent interest in SCW aircraft here. The He-51 is a must-have for early Legion Condor.

Nice work Carl, I hope Ares games will distribute more early (pre-) war planes.

    Thanks Kevin.

I have always loved the look of the He 51, very sexy aircraft.

I would like to see a SCW set:

    Messerschmitt Bf 109B
    Fiat CR.32
    Polikarpov I-15
    Polikarpov I-16

    Then an early bombers:
    Fiat BR.20
    Tupolev SB-2

There is already a card for the Fiat BR.20 and the early Heinkel He 111E from the proposed 'Rain of Destruction' set, both of which served in Spain:

Love the paint jobs and the decals really make them pop. I can never get enough Spanish Civil war planes and these are superb.

That's actually got more to do with your number of posts than your Rep.

    Default 1/285th scale He-51s

A gentleman in OH wanted some Nationalist He-51s assembled and painted. Making the decals was the most challenging part of this project. The He-51s are Raiden kits. They consist up the two landing gears, the lower wing and fuselage assemble, and the top wing. A bit of wire is provided for construction of the cabane and interplane struts. I've got some Shapeways 1/200 He-51s that I will probably be a bit easier to finish now that these are complete. I used Vallejo Model Color paints and produced the decals in house. These are my four Heinkel He.51 for the Spanish Civil War.
They fought for the first time during the first day of Prague Summer CON 2016.
All photos were taken and edited by Camille.

These are from Shapeways. Good models.

That's a pretty useful site Quim. For reference, I find these two books useful:

This one has lots of coloured illustrations in it

(and apologies for hijacking the painting thread )

    No problem.
    References are always important!
    I'll check those books.
