Default Wake Island Event 1566 Origins 2013

The Americans want to gain air superiority over Wake Island prior to landing but the Airfield on that island is buzzing with Japanese planes.

Flying over the ocean are five Curtiss P40 Warhawks, three F4F4 Wildcat.

A number of planes were shot down which made it difficult to determine if any superiority was won by either side.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for those pics. Great looking mat too.
Who was flying what. (If you can remember!)

First pic from bottom left to top right
    Redcoon in the Hellcat
Myself in the Blue Tailed Warhawk
Glenn in the Red Tailed Warhawk
Cheryl’s Husband flew the Yellow Checker Tailed Warhawk with I think a black dot
Cheryl flew the Yellow Checker Tailed Warhawk with the red dot
Two new pilots joined the table:
Mike in the P-40E Warhawk (Hill) and
    Todd in a Wildcat.
Scott was also flying a Wildcat but not sure who was on the very outer edge.

For the Japanese in the second pic from left to right I believe we have…
Randy flying a Ki-61 with yellow dot
Ken Z flying a Zero with the white dot
Brian who flew the Zero with the black dot
Can't recall who flew the next A6 Resien Zero (Kaneko), and the next Zero to that one
Andy was flying the green Zero
Followed by Riley in a Ki-61
And Dave in the last Ki-61

    Nice AAR, Kermit!

    Mass attack at it best!

...and Nightbomber commanded the Japanese gunship?

Nice gesture to equip him with the most powerful axis fighter.

Did you play with altitude rules?

We did have altitude rules in effect.
If you were at 4 pegs (max for this mission) with climb counters and another plane was at 4 pegs with no climb counters, there is no chance of collision.
If you were at 4 pegs with climb counters and shooting at a target who was at 4 pegs with no climb counters, you deal +1 damage for height advantage.
This also applies when shooting at a target one peg below your altitude. Though that plane must be within short range and takes a long damage with +1.
Most of the planes needed 4 climb counters before you can add another peg of height.
To strafe the radar towers you had to be at least at altitude 2 taking a short range shot doing long range damage.

Not sure if I left anything out. Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Andy was flying a green Zero not the powerful green Tony. And he flew very well.

Ah, ok. Thanks for clarification, Tom.

I'm afraid Nighbomber will perforate our Messerschmitts in Prague in July, too.

Sorry for the confusion. I don't have all the planes so I looked online to find out what plane it might have been. It would be nice to get a site that one can look at all the planes that are currently available. I'll change that in the previous post to reflect the changes.

Here is a photo of the two gentlemen I didn't catch their names flying the mystery Japanese planes in the corner of the map.

Riley is one cold eyed stone killer! FWIW we did NOT have the heavy cannon armed Hien with the little Clover on it.

Dave who is Kugelblitz. Also Riley won the scenario on the very last shot of the game with a long range shot into, umm, Scott who was flying one peg below her. He pulled out an explosion counter (better you then me, dude).

Tom ran a great game, and it was great seeing you guys again this year. Hope the rest of Andrej's trip is as fun as the Con was.

Kind of as I help a little with the island and Luis AKA IBERIAN SHADOW put it on water and printed it out at his shop. He also printed the mat for Sails of Glory too. If you have a high definition or resolution photo he can blow it up to 4'x6' mat.

The way Andy was shooting down planes one would suspect he was in that Green Tony.
