Thread: Another Movie Biplane

    Default Another Movie Biplane

Another biplane I couldn't recognize was the one used in "It's a mad mad mad mad world" wonderful 1963 comedy by Stanley Kramer. In the movie the pilot states it was built in 1916 (to the orror of the soon to be passengers).
Can anyone tell me what model is it?

I'm sorry I couldn't find a better pic, the plane is seen also in the trailer.

BTW, if you haven't, find it and watch it, it's "the mother of all the treasure hunt movies"

Here (from minute 2 and 30 seconds) you can see the takeoff.

Judging from the tail and wing plan, I'd say it was a re-engined Tiger Moth.

Edit: Seeing Jared's post I checked and would have to agree with him.

Wasn't the Tiger Moth the one used in "The Mummy" as well?
The wing plan looks more a Standars J to me...

the mummy plane was not a tiger moth, but a stampe sv4 like in indiana jones, though to be fair, they sort of look alike in some ways.

Well, I always understood that it was actually the very same plane to be used in both films. Lately i read somewhere that the mummy one was a de Havillard, but your interpretation makes more sense to me.
