Thread: Transporting your planes.

That is a nice looking box Carlos.

Aaron, Sabol and S&S foam are basically the same thing. They are the same size and same type of foam, called PU foam. There might be a difference in the density, but I don't think so.

You could fit as many as 15 planes in a tray if you do not care that they could be touching each other...

Made it to the LGS yesterday and picked up the Mark II and a couple more 1" trays. I was busy plucking foam last night and my WWII collection now has a home with plenty of room to expand.

I will post some pics later, the ones I took last night did not load.

    Edit:

OK, this is what I came up with (still need to add labels)
    Sabol Mark II case:

Opens from the back so trays slide out:

    DoW Set I:

Custom planes and remainder of SetI

    B-17s with room for more:

All the current Manuever decks and cards:

Rules, plane consoles, and extras all easily fit in the pockets on the case.

Appreciate all the help getting this set up, I am very please with it. Considering what I spent on the models I think the extra investment to protect them is worth it.

This weekend I received a case from Figures in Comfort, a mere £71 and the trays are specific for WoW: http://www.figuresincomfort.net/catalogue/

    well recommended!

Can you elaborate on "specific for WoW" please?

The site looks very similar to the S&S or Army Transporter systems. I assume these are pluck foam that you had to fit the minis to or are you saying they came preformed for WoW planes?

They have a two trays with pre-cut Wings of War sizes, one tray for one-seater and one tray for two-seaters. I have the FA, WYB and BD sets and the booster packs. All the extra components fit in nicely, I also have most (except for four aircraft) of the series one, two and three minis and all of these fit with no problems. Here's a picture of mine:

There is a link to the WoW trays on the website (tray numbers 40 and 41 I think), but no pictures at the moment. The new owners of the company are very good, great communication and speedy delivery. I thoroughly recommend especially for people in the UK (and no, I don't work for them, I just thought I'd pass on the information as I think they deserve it...)

This should link to the WoW trays:

The other one is tray number 41, which is not on the website but ask about it.

Ahh, okay. It appears they are just pre-cut squares the right size to hold the planes and cards. They look nice, but I think you could get an even better fit for a better price with the pluck style trays.

I transport my minis with two XL Hard Cases from http://www.feldherr.net/. There is space for the three WWI Series, the content of two Balloon Busters Sets, the Deluxe Set, the BD Set an the WYB Set. And I think there is space for just two other WWI Series, perhaps without all the cards. When I'm at home I can post some Pictures.

I store my aircraft in a Figures in Comfort case using pick n pluck trays, but if I only need to take a few aircraft to a game, I have a few of these:

    http://www.locknlock.com.au/products_c.php?cate1=1

The rectangular box holds one aircraft along with its cards and stand, and they come in fighter, two-seater and bomber sizes . Google lock n Lock and you will find quite a few stores that stock them.

I'm the polar opposite of all of these. Most of my (admittedly as yet fledgling) fleet of miniatures are made of paper. They're quite robust, light and don't chip, so I've just thrown them all into a small box. So far I have encountered no problems, and it certainly helps with space saving if you have no padding.

Of course, I don't treat painted miniatures this way.

Great minds. My main storage unit is a Figures case. I still use the original "famous Aces" box if I am only transporting two aircraft and cards, but the plastic boxes give more versatility. I use one for my balloon, and winch truck.

Perhaps I should be more discerning, but my storage solution is very basic. I went to a container store and picked up a pair of cardboard ornament boxes that have 28 compartments in each for about $25 apiece. I scooped up some loose packing corn and so compartments hold on two two-seaters or three planes apiece. The stands, pegs, card, and deck for each plane is in its own, self-contained ziplock. Damage decks, booster decks, and cards from the boxed sets are bundled with hair bands. With Series 4 for WWI and Series 2 for WWII on the horizon, I'll probably have to get a more ornament boxes or come up with something a bit more substantial.
