Thread: Flying multiple aircraft.

    Question Flying multiple aircraft.

I have found it increasingly difficult to fly a patrol with a full number of aircraft without loosing track of which one is which. The most that I seem to be able to control is three. One camel looks much like any other even though I have added letters to the top wings to help.
Any of you bright young chaps out there got any solution for my problem, or is it just the senility setting in?
    Thanks, Rob.

You might find it useful to use a flight board for each plane, but instead of placing your selected three cards on the board, set them face down next to the plane they go with. then flip your next maneuvers from there.

Thanks Col. I'll give that a try.

I just use 0.5cm diameter self-adhesive coloured stickers from the stationers, with matching dots on the model's base and card.

    Another good idea. Thanks Iain.

I fond the best way to do this is without outside input. In DOW i went with four different planes with different movement cards. This worked great i actually played 7 turns with some hits and misses. Then my eight month old kitten joined the fight. He proved once again that a TOMCAT[neutered] can defeat four WW2 fighters in seconds!

Think I saw that film, but it was 2 Tomcats (winged, not 4-legged) vs 2 Zeros

    Hi Richard.
No real contest there then. Try it with three cats in the house. One of whom can actually tip up the wargames table. No I haven't caught him yet, but if I find out which one it was then !*!** !

Rob He is the youngest of seven cats. Last year we would argue about him sleeping under the hood [bonnet] of my car. He was wild and would be there every morning, blowing the horn would not work. At 5 am in the morning this did not amuse my neighbors! Finally i grabbed him one Saturday morning with the intent of finding him a home. He went from a feral to a pet me pest in five minutes. That was last August, so i named him Augustus Fink-Nottle. I cannot help it i was listening to Right Ho Jeeves on audio book at the time blame Woodhouse!

    Hi Richard,
Quite a coincidence. Our cat, Salem, was a stray and quite feral. He just turned up on the doorstep with one of our neighbour's cats one morning, and never left. He has calmed down a lot ,but still gets the call of the wild occasionally. The other two are really my son's cats. He is between homes at the moment, and I suspect one of them as being the culprit with the Wargames table. Can't prove it though, no paw prints.

Rob! That attacks brought on a no cat in the hobby room rule! This was not a
well received decision. I told the cats to raise their right paws if they disagreed
with this. They all abstained, but there seems to be a higher than usual hairball count outside the door!

My cat used to rob minis from my work desk , never broke any . I would find them somewhere in the room.

This is an old thread and Rob has now resolved this issue. He now differentiates between his planes by adding smoke and flame markers

Only ever had a pair of Easy Model 1/72 WW2 fighters get 'boogled' by the cat ... Whose name was 'Boogle' and who is alas now gone but will never be forgotten thanks to this.

To add an even sillier twist to this tale our current cat is called 'Spitfire' but he is now getting a little too large for 'boogling' any of my aircraft let alone the prize collection of we have assembling here!

Three months ago i purchased some Testors paint for a project. Time comes to use them and one bottle is missing. I search and search and convince myself that i did not buy one of the colors i needed. On my next trip to the hobby store i pickup a new bottle of the missing paint. On returning home i see under the couch the shape of a paint bottle. Yes the cats had found a better use for it!

I did in fact solve the original problem in the end by marking every card and plane base with a small coloured sticky dot. You may spot them on my AARs. It is also useful for spotting your own cards when packing up at shows.

I attempt to keep confusion down by having players fly a bomber and a fighter. The distinctive decks keep most players on track. If two planes of the same type are flown, two different deck backgrounds sometimes works. We all play with someone, who despite all attempts at order in the universe can screw this up! I found after one game cards from three decks, all bound with a rubber band. These were not three different A decks mixed, but a combination of A,B and I decks. No wonder this player had a hard time keeping up with the game!

I try to avoid commanding more than 1 airplane in a game. Having to fly 2 or more kites is a headache and not fun (save playing solo if ever). Anyway my decks are marked with letters and numbers of different colour markers to help me organize them after playing with .

Seen ! They are tiny - where did you get them Rob ? I have the standard ones but they are a bit obtrusive on cards.

I know what you mean about the planes that look the same. I have a P-Touch label maker and put a number on each stand to match the number on the flight board. And as far as the cats go sometime when the wife and I go away for a few days I have to search and make sure the planes are still in one piece. I don't know how the one finds them when I put them away. Rich S. had a game set up last year for a Med battler, Brits vs Italians. No one wanted to play so Rich and I ran the whole game flying planes for both sides. I did sink a British destroyer with one of my SM-79's but kept shooting down the Italian escorts.

We were flying six planes each, both Axis and Allied. The highlight of that game came when we were both getting tired. I made a perfect approach on a plane with a Fulmar. Bob would not let me take a shot. It was his Fulmar i had lined up on!

Was there by any chance "drinking" involved in this game?

    Thumbs up

Just punch drunk. Our gaming day started at 8am. We played my four hour game then. Followed that with John Snellings WW1 game. By 9pm we were getting tired. That was 14 hours of gaming with only two breaks. I am old, Bob is young and active!

How's your back standing up Rich. That's where the long sessions find me out the next day.
