    Default Origins 2013 Roll Call

Yep, we are running events like every year:

    Experience: None
Every player gets a free miniature!
    Player limit: 10

A top level French spy has managed to send word that he has vital Intel that can only be delivered in person. High Command has deemed it worth pulling him out of enemy territory. Will the Allies be able to rescue their spy, or will the dastardly Huns strike another well placed blow?

    Zeppelin Spotted
    Complexity: Medium

Every player gets a free miniature!
    Player limit: 10

Just off the cost of Belgium a returning German Zeppelin has been spotted at low altitude. All available aircraft have been dispatched to intercept it. Knowing its great value, the Kaiser has sent Jasta 5 to escort it back to the Fatherland. Will the Allies be able shoot it down in flames, or will the huge gas bag climb to safety while it’s Scout protection makes short work of the enemy planes?

A picture is worth 1,000 men
    Complexity: Medium
    Age: 10+
Experience: Some recommended, but not required.
Every player gets a free miniature!
    Player limit: 10

Throughout WWI, one of the vital roles that aircraft played was photo reconnaissance. Clear photos of the enemy's side of the lines could save thousands of lives on the ground during the assault. In this mission both sides are trying to photograph the area in advance of a large land engagement as well as deny the enemy access to the same information. Players can choose to fly the recon plane or one of the scout aircraft assigned to protect it and engage any other enemy aircraft.

Wings of Glory Aerodrome Invitational 2013
    Complexity: Advanced
    Age: 12+
    Experience: Required
    Prizes
    Player limit: 24

Test your mental against some of the best pilots from the Wings of Glory Aerodrome in this large furball of a tournament! Players will start with an early war plane and progress to newer and newer planes as they get shot down. Wings of Glory WW1: BUG HUNT 1919
    Complexity: Advanced
    Age: 12+
Experience: Some recommended, but not required.
    Player limit: 14

Spring 1919: the long delayed offensive is now ready, and American Expeditionary Force is poised to strike. General Pershing wants to keep the Germans from shifting reinforcements to the attack sector by crippling a major railroad marshaling yard and station center. Rather than risking his bombers attacking this heavily defended target, Pershing brings out the latest American innovation: the Kettering Bug. The German pilots must try to shoot down as many of these pilotless bombs as they can. Oh, and watch out for escorting SPADs!

    Aerodrome vs. Aerodrome
    Complexity: Easy
    Age: 8+
    Experience: None
    Prizes Awarded
    Player limit: 14

Wings of Glory WWI. One crater-marked front. Two Opposing Aerodromes. Take to the skies and contend for your airspace as you attempt to destroy your enemy's 'Drome and defend your own. Prizes Awarded!

    Burn Drachen Burn!
    Complexity: Easy

Well... I am really hoping to make it this year (last year I was in the 'Stan). If I go, I plan on running some WoW/WoG games (and playing in some as well!) Haven't seen my drill schedule for 2013, but I bet I'll have to be off saving the world from democracy, or something. Always seems to work out that way. *sigh*

    So... Yeah, tentatively, I'm going

I took the whole week off this year, so barring the usual life-altering crisis, I'll be there; probably Thursday evening.

    Origins 2013 is June 12th - 16th. And I will be there. Here's a link.
Also the 12th is my B-day so I look forward to a drink or two.

Absolutely! I am already looking forward to 2013 Origins -- plus the highway construction on I-670 will be finished and it'll be an easy drive into the Columbus convention center! Woohoo!

I hope you can make it Chris. What part of the Stan were you in? I spent 2 years over there, 2003-2005.

I'm going to give it the "ol' college try." I've been saying I want to go for years now, so I think this is going to be the year when I finally do it.

Well Keith we had better start planning events in the next week or two... that way we can get them turned in early to give us wiggle room in case they change things on us...

well, not to be tiresome, but with my affirmation of intended attendance it appears the Ohio Squadron is rolling in in heavy numbers. Am planning on the whole shebang so also aim to run an event or two or at least assist...tbd. By the by...670 may be complete but downtown Columbus without loads of orange barrels??? get real.

I thought the orange barrels were decorations. I just thought they left them out all year.

    Well,

not allowed to give up that info for another 70 years, but... I got around... mostly Helmand, Kandahar and Nangahar provinces. Big bases, mostly.

Overall, it was a pretty boring year (which is not all that bad, I guess )

Yeah, a boring year there is always good. I was based out of Bagram but was setting up comms systems at most of the FOBs early on. From what I've seen, I would not even recognize most of the bases now.

Now when I fry up eggs they are the bomb. Just not the healthiest way to do them but the old-fashion way.

Question for all you ORIGINS Vets.

I am brining the base CO (wife) with me. I can get the weekend Military ($35) as I am retired Army. What is the best thing to do for the wife? I know that the HMGS East cons I can sign her in as a non player and it is free. Appreciate you input.

First find out what she likes then there is shopping and other attractions she can do while in Columbus as well as playing many games.

    Bob,
Origins does offer discounted day passes for those not playing, giving access to the exhibit hall. They also usually run a wife/spouse track with several non-gaming events & seminars. We'll know more when they release the event guide. The convention center is downtown & there are lots of shops & places to visit around Columbus. Like Tom said it depends what she is interested in. We'll be glad to give some recommendations.

    Look forward to meeting you!
