THanks for the comments - the 1940 RAF scheme is probably one of the least interesting colour schemes for any WW2 aircraft - but it is iconic for the BoB and is instantly recognisable!

I like your desert Hurris but what is the desert playing surface made from? One of my gaming friends wants to game the western desert air war and is looking for a suitable game mat.

I can drop a bit of rep onto Max on both our behalf's Andy.
I must do a show with the Desert mat you so kindly sent me last year.
Just recently I seem to have been all at sea.

Maybe some people don't know it, but in 1941 Britain sent two squadrons of Hurricanes in the USSR to defend the Harbour of Murmansk. Here is the story
    http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/englis...rd/hurricanes/
Anyway, I have taken a photo representing one of the 39 Hurricanes in Russia, flown by P/O Edminston

It is an MkIIb, with twelve machine guns.
In fact, Kuznetsov's Hurricane is one of those 39 planes, that was personalised and gifted to Col. Kuznetsov, head liasion officer in the Russian/English squadron

And a very neat job you have made of it too Cisco.
Thanks also for the background info.
I must try and get hold of a couple more MKIIb's myself.

I have read that the particular version of Merlin installed on MkIIb's was not ideal for very cold weather, so they would need more spare parts than usual. In a short time, after that the Hurricanes were handed over to the Russian, they became unairworthy. Sadly. But, anyway, the Russian have never appreciated the "Hurri". It's strange that they disliked the Hurricane, the Spitfire, the Mustang, but adored the P-39...

Yep, they look marvelous Cisco! I remember Osprey's book, Royal Navy Aces of WWII, talking about Sea Hurricanes being transported in escort carriers to protect convoys that went to Russia. But these are clearly diferent Hurris, since these one aren't 'Sea' Hurricanes.
But anyway, since I'm here already, I took some quick photos:

    Starts at 'Artic Convoys'

I have really enjoyed viewing these repaints. Inspiring work, folks. I need to keep an eye open for more Hurricanes; I have given a bunch away this past year, many to folks on BGG in my attempts to recruit them to the game and the Aerodrome.

Malta, Africa, Night Fighters, and the individual pilots - very cool indeed.

Post My 3 Aircraft Vic of 303 Polish Sqd BoB.

I finally finished my conversion of the 3 Russian Hurricanes today into a Vic of 303 Polish Sqd & thanks to Nightbomber (Andy) have given the the Aircraft Codes of Maj Jan Zumbach (B), F/O Miroslaw (J) & W/O M Wojciechowski (U).

I had to overpaint the Red Stars with white circles as I found the Shed Decals I purchased required white decals under the Roundels as there is no white on the decals. I was disappointed to find that the very thin yellow line on the fuselage roundels does not show up on the camo.
The tail surfaces likewise had to be painted white before applying the tail stripes. A certain amount of touching up with dark green was required to cover the bright green used by the Russians to overpaint the British roundels on the model
The I.D. letters are from Microscale & are really excellent. I did try to achieve the pale blue finish on the letters but could not get a blue wash to adhere to the decal letters.

I now look forward to pitting them against some German Aircraft at our games club.

    Nice work Baz.
The one down side with Shed decals is the yellow line problem. I ended up putting two of the white roundels on before the coloured ones over dark surfaces. They are so fine an extra thickness makes no difference.

I like that the original had such a large number 39 on it so it could be changed easily. Now they should be easily regognizable on the table.

Nice Hurris Peter. Good choice in 1 Sqn RAF, you can use them for Battle of France or BOB. The book 'Fighter Pilot' by Paul Richey details 1 Sqn's French Canpaign, might give you a few ideas for historical missions. Book review here - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...=Fighter+pilot

Unfortunately I cannot Rep you, the forum says I have given you enough at the moment :-(
