    Default Desert Duel Voting

    Read First

The WWII contests have always been slower then the WWI ones, but this time we had a really

Criteria you should look for when voting for your favorite entry:

    • Smooth paint
    • Crisp lines between colors
    • Build quality (if it is a metal or resin kit)
    • Surface prep (if it is a Shapeways model)
    • The Devil is in the details, take time to look for the painted details
    • Unique subject, is it a pilot/plane that you have seen a lot of?

I also suggest you note your top picks and come back after a while and view them again before voting.

    Good Luck everyone!

    A very high standard.
Even after shortlisting five, I had to gut reaction vote on the top four in the end.

One was outstanding... picking 2 & 3, much harder.

Interesting that two Hurris ended up with the same unusual 73 sqdn markings - different serial letters though, one factory-fresh, the other weathered and stained with use.

Some great effort all round I'd say, I was expecting more of the interesting German camo schemes though. The base in the sand in genius, well done that man!!

    Good luck all,

    Dave.

    Great repaints, gentlemen!
It's hard to decide three of them; by one or another reason, all them have interesting points. On the other hand, it's curious only one German plane has been selected.

Bottles already in the fridge. To the winners and all participants.
But I'm afraid Herr Oberst will post the results at 4:00 am
We here always have to watch all the most entertaining American events at nights (Oscars, boxing). That's unfair.

Well done to all the winners

I'll own up to #2 being my crate. I'll also confess that I'm a bit confused :embarass:, clearly I've missed that mark here and I'm not at all sure why at the mo. Taking a look at my entry what could I do better, or perhaps what did others do better?

once again, bravo all round... to the bar!!

    cheers,

    Dave.

If you want specific feedback on your model, I recommend you open a thread for it. But I'm not sure it is so clear you "missed the mark". There were several good entries, and nearly a quarter of the respondents still decided that your model was worthy of recognition. I think it's a mistake to construe the results as a failure on your part.

    Congratulation to the winners.

I'm shure that the number one "Martlet" is a product of Herrn Oberst's minauture factory.

    A nice contest.

    Hi Dave,
Your model was also my favorite. I was especially impressed with your modelling work on the 40 mm gun pods. The fact is that the level of quality in the contest was very high.

I was very impressed with the work on the canopy in #2. Then there was the customisation with the 40mm. I voted for #1 first, but #2 was a close second.

The problem was using a Hurricane as the base. It's not a pretty aircraft. #2 and #7 were both excellently painted, better I think than the entries that came in 2nd and 3rd (good though those were). One had a near-new finish, the other the faded, blotchy and ragged-edged appearance seen on photos. Realistic, well-researched, yes - but aesthetically not so good.

I think in order to get maximum votes, you need a pretty plane, and a neat, tidy colour scheme. Adding oilstains, scratches, and weathering will lose, not gain, votes. It's about looks, not authenticity. Now if you can find an authentic scheme that's also aesthetically pleasing, you have it made.
