Thread: Giant Voting

    Default Giant Voting

This was our first painting contest for the the larger minis. Due to only two entries, the voting rules have to be changed a little bit. You only get one vote for this one. The Entry that receives the most votes will get the first pick of the prizes followed by the 2nd place entry.

    Read First

The WWII contests have always been slower then the WWI ones, but this time we had a really

Criteria you should look for when voting for your favorite entry:

    • Smooth paint
    • Crisp lines between colors
    • Build quality (if it is a metal or resin kit)
    • Surface prep (if it is a Shapeways model)
    • The Devil is in the details, take time to look for the painted details
    • Unique subject, is it a pilot/plane that you have seen a lot of?

    Good Luck everyone!

Crew, cabane and nacelle struts on the unusual Polish one, a classic design and brilliantly executed LVG paint job on the German one... Darn, not an easy choice.

Both started looking like this -

Note that better photos of the crash show it's definitely MoRoTAS not MoRoTA. Colour... that's informed guesswork.

This closeup of the gun shield position, clear up the first question...was it MoRoTA or MoRoTAS? Clearly i can see the outline of the beggining of the "S" So for me it's MoRoTAS. What colours? That's harder and really both options that WNW's give are just educated guesses really. But i like their reasoning on the black, white and red option and i'll be using that. Note that WNW's also include the decals for the red, white, yellow option if you prefer that interpretation.

The colour of the ailerons on this one is also informed guesswork - they're described as "tan", which could be anything from a yellowy brown to a browny yellow.

The "MoRoTa" one seems to have a slightly different wing configuration in the real life pic...

The detail picture that proves it's MoRoTAS not MoRoTA as in some profiles...

The front badge on the Polish one is even more tricky - on some photos it's under the nose, on others, at the front. Colour of background is also a guess.

Sorry must have missed the announcement to vote.
A difficult choice both planes look really well painted.
Went with the German in the end.

No I didn't, the wife made a loud noise behind me which made me jump and I clicked on the Polish one instead, never mind, I will stand by that as both planes are well painted.

... and the Polish one a somewhat modified undercarriage.

As far as I can tell, 100/17 (renumbered from 213/17) and the other Polish aircraft were the last surviving Gothas. The German and Austrian ones had been destroyed in accordance with the Versailles treaty.

Hard choice on which one to vote for. The German one MoRoTas looks like a tag they put on trains these days. These guys were ahead of their time in tagging.

The Polish Gotha was robbed! Did no one (or only one third, I guess) appreciate the nice new struts and detailed crew memebers? Perhaps a bit more of a close-up would've helped it's chances.

I disagree completely - the MoRoTAS one had to be given extra style points for the positioning in the wrecked building, as per the photos of the crash. If I hadn't posted those photos, others might not have "gotten it", but I certainly did.

I like them both but voted for number one.

It was the combination of extra detailed work and the uncommon painting sheme and national markings.

    Congratulation.

Both wonderful entries and great additions to the local gaming tables in their areas. The official winners thread can be found here.
