Very nice Michal, I thought it was a 1/72 kit at first with all that rigging until I saw the 1/144 label

    Both very neat.
Unfortunately the Turkish markings just doesn't do anything for me, can't say why?
Don't mean the painting or the modelling , just the markings

This is a repaint of an official Ares mini: the Buddecke EIII.

In our club we tend to do the Air-battles of the Western front so I had little use for a Fokker that was wearing Turkish colors. So Idecided to repaint this one.

It went a little sour when I tried to drill out the pilot "blob" using a Dremel tool: my cutting bit had a mind of its own and took a little walk over the top and the left wing of the mini.

And as I had been so stupid to paint the mini BEFORE I started chopping at the pilot, you can imagine that I was not amused at all with the result. The strut over the machinegun went awol in a blink of an eye and there was substantial battle damage on the left wing.

I reconstructed the strut with styreen rod and used superglue (gel)to close the gap in the wing ( it stil shows a bit )
Then i used my painting skills to camouflage the disaster.

All in all it turned out rather well I suppose.

Looks very good Alex - and if you hadn't mentioned damage I wouldn't have realised there was any

  17. #17

Yes, it looks great to me too. I actually got to wondering if we should not in fact reflect some battle damage on some of our repaints. The odd wrong coloured wing or some patches. Little roundels on bullet holes, that sort of thing?

A good looking, weathered, battle weary plane. I assure you it looks much more realistic than an out-of-the-box copy. Be proud of it.

    Default Dirty Fokkers

Here are some pics of a quick and dirty repaint of the green Ares Hautzmeyer E.III that I very recently acquired by pure chance, thankyou Herr Oberst, I didn't strip or prime it but went for a straight forward slap on of GW Blood Red confident that the green background would give it the dirty used look I was after - and so it was ! Not historically accurate I'm sure but it looks a corker ! Now just have to touch in the wing edges that I can see are still green !!

A superior plane indeed Mark. I wonder what happened to the one I bought in Turkish colours?
Could be due for a revamp.

Very nice & suitably menacing in black. For some reason I've been thinking of doing one in a nice bright shade of royal blue. I think it'd look rather striking.

Well since quick and dirty Ares versions seem to be flavour of the week here's mine.
just a paint over of the wings, and a couple of home mades on the fuselage, and the entirely fictitious Ober Leutnant Freiherr Maximillian Von Fledermaus.

Saying that is quick and dirty is batting on a sticky wicket John.
I'd say you have achieved another colour scheme to be proud of.
Time to break out the Pink Champagne.

    Default Fokker the Genestealer

I do not really need another green Hautzmayer Fokker. Let's change it's colour.
While my Space Hulk Genestealers are almost ready painted, "Genestealer Purple" has been left over, just to make a field repaint leaving some underneath paint showing up here and there. Doesn't it look at least funny? Maybe a new ace of The Early War Campaign will drive it?

Now I really didn't see that coming, although I'm sure everyone else will Andy.

Very nice work all, giving me some great ideas, thanks. For those that are putting the rigging on their planes, can you please tell me what you use? I had thought I would use brass, maybe steel, wire, but there may be something better. Appreciate the help.
