I'd put the Mohawk-IV as C, but previous versions were slower. That poor K deck is getting used a lot.

As for climb rate - perhaps we should use the one for the altitude the plane usually flew at, then give penalties in performance when using it outside its optimum operating altitude. That way, we can deal with differences in speed, climb etc, and have some aircraft doing well "on the deck" but badly at altitude, others fantastic at altitude, but poor at low level.

For example - P-39 over low altitude must do 1 slow maneuver per turn, and climb -1. Mig-3 at low or medium altitude must do 1 slow maneuver per turn, and climb -1.

Since this thread started, I've been filling out an excell file for plane stats, and have gotten to damage. IMO, ALL the official Japanese planes are atleast 50% too strong, maybe more.
    Thoughts.

Well at least the Ki-61 Hien had sealed fueltanks

But the strange thin gis: Once the plane gets an engine with more horsepower it can withstand more damage.
    Spitfire Mk.I = 17 Damage
    Spitfire Mk.II = 18 Damage

    Bf109 E-1 = 16 Damage
    Bf109 E-3 = 17 Damage
    Bf109 E-4 = 18 Damage

Hmm.... I missed that the Bf-109E-1 has 16 damage.
As for the HP=Damage correlation, it's just a factor of warplane evolution. You get better engines while realising that you need to up the protection. You see it in all the planes in WW2 (at least the ones that evolved trough the bulk of the war).

    What is really strange is:
The only realworld difference between the Bf109 E-1 and the E-4 ist the armament.
    E-1 is armed with 4 × 7,92-mm-MG 17
    E-3 is armed with 2 × 7,92-mm-MG 17 and 2 × 20-mm-MG FF

The E-4 had better armour for the pilot's cockpit which justifies the +1 Damage compared to the E-3.

The differences between Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.II are:
Engine with 1175hp instead of 1030hp which gives +28km/h and an improved climb rate.
    Additional 32kg of Cockpit armour.

Possible Formulae for determining aircraft stat - revised.

    Fast (A,B,E,F,G,H): 555 km/h plus
    Medium (C,D) : 505 km/h plus
    Slow (K): 455 km/h plus
    V.Slow (J,L): 405 km/h plus
    Pedestrian(I) : 355 km/h plus

Add 75 km/h to range if using bomber base ( ie K is 530 km/h plus)

    Damage :
    Fighters : 5 + (Empty Weight in Kg / 200)
    Bombers : Loaded weight/400

To split decks within each speed:
    C vs D - wing loading under/over 130 kg/m
    L vs J - wing loading under/over 120 kg/m

Prefioulsy you stated that the D.520 schould be G-Deck.
If with Actual Damage you meant the official Damage Capacity then here are they:
    Dewoitine D.520 = 16
    Hurricane Mk.I = 17
    A6M2 = 16
    F4F-4 = 18
    Ki-43-II = 17
    I-16-10 = 15
    I-16-5 = 14
    I-16-24 = 16
    Gladiator I = 14
    Fiat CR42 = 16

Calculating with your formula and using the stats given on Wikipedia:
    A Bf109 E-3 would have 15,05
    A Spitfire Mk.I would have 14,77

There may be some correction factor for damage for those a/c with armour protection. I assume the Hurricane I's were after they'd been refitted. Early 109E's had none. I-16's had quite a bit. Hayabusa-IIs had some,A6M2s and F4F-4s had none.

I think a bigger problem with the game as a simulation is the lack of real differentiation in the card decks. A Spitfire for example could turn very well at high speed, a Bf109 could turn as well, but only at low speed. It's a pity that this wasn't brought out in the decks, but it's a bit late now without re-doing both A and B decks. The A6M2's really low wing loading shows that it should be able to match a biplane for turning - it's only the fact that it has a lousy roll rate that might stop that.

If I had my druthers, I'd have one of the cards for an A6M2's turn be 90 degrees at low speed, but 45 at high. For the Bf109, 60/45. For the Spitfire, 45/60.

However, by that time, we have "Advanced WGF" not "WGF". So best live with the limitations.

The Bf109 E-4 had improved cockpit armour. I don't know about earlier versions armour.
