This Roland is a Shapeways (colinwe) WSF Roland D.VIb painted in a fantasy scheme (lacked the lozenge decals) as a personal kite.

This was inspired by the Gee Bee "Z", and one of my favorite scifi spaceships that happens to share the plane's name.
    Any guesses?

    And the Raven plane...

Not that I'm really into football, but I figured it was a cool set of colors, and a way to show I have team spirit.

All these Rolands are very impressive, official colour schemes or not. They are all an improvement on the original Nexus paint jobs.

Thanks. Of course the official Roland is a C.II as opposed to a D.II or a D.VI. And I do kinda like the schemes on the official Rolands, so much so that I've ordered another D.II (this time in FUD) to do something that may be a little closer to a historical scheme. I don't recall if that's going to be in today's Shapeways shipment, or the one I'm expecting at the end of the week or early next week, but I hope to have it done by the end of the month.

Thanks. I hadn't painted anything in awhile so there was some creative energy that needed to escape or else I would have exploded.

    Here´s another one I´ve done:

Oberleutnant Schwandners Roland D.II (Jasta 32), here on Patrol with Roland D.II from Kest 4:

Olt. Schwandner was the first CO of Jasta 32 from Feb. 21., 1917 until his death on March 16. 1917.
His patrol of 3 Roland D.II was surprised by French Aces Guynemer and Deullin. Olt. Schwandners machine took fire by a burst of Guynemers SPAD VII and he jumped out of the flaming plane and fall to his death.
Deullin forced Lt. von Waldhausen to do an emergency landing behind french lines and he was took POW and on May 15. he died of his wounds.

It was the first (unlucky) aircombat of Jasta 32.

Very pretty work, P-G - and all the rest of you painting Roland fighters! I'm sure this means I have to get a couple from Shapeways and 'do 'em up'...

    All the best,

Are the colours right ? Who knows anymore but I could achieve a dark brown & dark green shown in a lot of images I looked at so went for that. I wasn't sure at first but I'm pretty happy with how they came out in the end.
Underside is Airfix Matt 65 acrylic sky blue; topsides are old GW colours Vermin Fur ? Dark Angel Green ? Miscimi decals.
The stats are similar to an Alb D.II & D.III but the climb rate (3) & damage (15) give it an edge.

Trouble is must be a rookie observer as he is pointing the gun directly at the tail!

Once he shoots it off it won't be in his way anymore.

It could be as a rookie and being such a bad shot, aiming at the tail is his best way of not hitting it.
