We're not in a hurry here, Marco.
Take the time you need.
I'm not shure if I could play it before Christmas. Think it will be the week between the 24th and the 31th.

Yeah, I know. But if don't play before Christmas holidays I couldn't play it until after the 6th of Jenuary
And since my pilots are in the right mood (and I'm veeery lucky with damages) I don't want them lose it resting on laurels during Christmas (expecially eating too much and so having their planes heavier and slower than usual). Because they have to react fast and to be lethal as they always are
Marco
Ok, Marco - so guard your transports well.
Do you have Dauntless bombers? ...or maybe a B25 Mitchell for the bombing mission?
Otherwise use Wildcats or P40 Warhawks as bombers.
Unfortunately I haven't Dauntless (where did you buy them?) and I'll use B-25 and it'll be escorted by Wildcats: this will enforce the spirit of my pilots or will destroy them (I hope the first choice).
One question: using B-25, it has to do dive bombing or it will stay at the 4th level peg troughout the game?
Otherwise I'll use P-40 and Wildcats.
Marco
Aircraft in Miniature (AIM) produces very fine resin 1:200 models. Sven and me bought some of them.
Here you have some of them painted:

Thanks Andrzej, but is ithis the site http://www.aim72.co.uk/index.html?
Because I didn't find a single mini here
Marco
My fault!

there you go, Marco!
Irregardless of the hollyweird version shown in the movie "Always" (another Spielberg movie) a B-25 in a vertical dive tends to shed minor surface areas like the left and right wings. But it works pretty good on the level and as a nifty ground support with B-25J with I believe 18x .50 caliber MG's aboard = eight in the nose, four in under-cockpit packages, two in an upper turret, two in the waist, and a pair in the tail. That many heavy machine guns would do a job on strafing a loaded carrier's flight deck. Now if they would work better than Torpedo Eight is..... sounds like a nifty scenario for you all to try to build and play.
First: There are no B-25s shown flying in _Always_; the water-bombers shown are Douglas A-26s. (The sole B-25 in the film appears in the background of one shot, parked.)
Second: The massed MG loadout described wasn't used on B-25s until very much later in the war (1944); so about the only time it could be used against IJN CVs is at the Philippines -- and the IJN acft. were mostly land-based at that point, with the CVs serving (effectively, thanks to Halsey's thick-skulled stupidity) only as bait.
Third: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/irregardless . :)
Fourth, and last: I am already working up scenarios for "Pappy" Gunn's Finest -- however, since I don't use minis that much, and I'm still getting my camera squared away for when The Origins Mini arrives, I haven't bothered with AARs.
Hey Chris, why don't you try one of our Midway Campaign mission. Shot down some cannon armed rice cookers - just for fun.
We have no fighter sqadrons from the USS Enterprise at the moment.
Unfortunately, because of some chores, I had to give up and postponing "my battle" until the italian scholls will be re-opened. And so no dofights and bombings until 7th of jenuary
Marco
Unfortunately, speaking of forest fires: I spend most of my time (esp. at this time of year) Pissing On Forest Fires, so I really don't have time.
And like I said: I'm currently working on 5thAF stuff -- including the 6xB-draw B-25....
(Sample: "75mm Intimidation Rule": A B-25 with the 75mm may attempt to intimidate foes into leaving the field by firing the big gun in their general direction [they don't know what it is, or that it has almost-zero chance of hitting; but it is quite impressive...]. To attempt this, the B-25 player need only draw a single D-chit while one or more enemies are in the #1 arc; if the chit draw equals or exceeds the HP remaining of a enemy in that arc, that enemy must immediately exit the playing field via the shortest course to its own side. Fleeing enemies may be attacked, but will not fight back.)
Happy new year dear Midway Campaigners.
Time to bomb/defend tha Japanese transports.
Cheers, mate!
VF-3 on duty!
A little bit late (I was finally spending some holiday time with my family in Valencia) I'd like to wish to all of the officers (US or Japs no matters) a happy new year!!!!
Marco
P.S. I hope to play the third scenario during this week (on thursday I think)
I finished mission 3, but for my shame I made a capital maneuver failure with one of my Wildcats.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...-amp-Immelmann
Think I need to refly the mission...
The result: One sunk ship & three shot down Zeros - but I lost both Dauntless dive bombers.
Mission solved!

Another Midway detail:

I never knew that the US Navy was that outnumbered.

It looks bad -- but consider the realities of the battle:
1) The USN knew when the IJN would show up, and what they would be doing when they got there; the devil was in the details.
2) The USN under absolutely no circumstances was going to engage in a surface battle with the IJN; so all those BBs and CAs the IJN had were ineffective save as seaplane launchers. (There's an interesting historical sidenote to that: One of _Tone_'s seaplanes launched several minutes late due to a catapult fault; it was this seaplane which spotted the US CVs while the IJN crews were in the middle of swapping from anti-ship loadouts to anti-land loadouts -- which led the exhausted crews to get sloppy in their fuel- and bomb-handling procedures, leaving fuel-filled hoses and bombs lying around when the USM dive-bombers showed up....)
So what really counted was the number of aircraft each side could put up -- spotters, and weapons-carriers; and that means it's only that last row which matters.
Found an intersting picture. It shows a bombardment of Midway.
Can you imagine how the defenders felt, when the Japs bomb that little Atoll?
...and I think the possibilities to dig in were limited.
Landing on such a small airfield is called "landing on a post stamp" here
Finally I could play the third mission!!! I'll post the AAR asap. Just one consideration: bombing with AI it's almost impossible
Marco
Why?
The AI hits automatically if the bomber is in range, according to the rules of course.
If this wasn't clear, I add it to the rules.
No, the rules are clear and work good. Maybe I'm too luck, but throwing dices to decide their movement (and consider ships their priority) bring only one bomber in range to sink my ship. They spent the rest of the game creeping on the mat, trying to reach the other ship and being shot down like pidgeons by my Zeros.
Anyway it was a good match and I enjoyed it (expecially because it took soooooo many time to be played)
Marco
Hi chaps,
I'm sorry I won't be able to fly the current mission till the end of Jan, for I'm going for a short winter holiday tonight.
See you on my return. Fly safe!
Andrzej.
Have nice days Andrzej
And think about me: here at home with flu
The only good thing is that I could see all the 6 Nations matches
Marco
Enjoy the trip, dear wingman.
...and don't worry about the mission. We have all the time wee need.
So the last (mid war) Over the trenches campaign mission is accomplished.
I'm shure we'll see mission Scenario 4: Midway Rising, soon.
Don't worry mate, I'm in plenty of time during this period
Marco
Mission 4 accomplished.
http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...nes-US-Navy%29
I'm ashamed, I'm behind the schedule, but everything goes in the way. Tonight I'm writing a horribly tough appeal to the court. I'm on my last legs, truly...
Great you accomplished the mission, Sven, I'll read the AAR as soon as I can.
Don't worry, Andrzej.
We're not in a hurry.
(thinking on the next two OTT missions... )
I'm late too: sick at home with flu once again (and this time even worse: it has been five days of 38° everytime of the day!!!). I can hardly stand
Marco
Sorry to hear that Marco.
Hope that you are feeling more chipper soon.
Rob.
Wish you a speedy recovery, Marco.
Thanks a lot to everybody for the wishes: I'm healthy (and combat ready) once again!!!
Marco
So start your engines and try to gain air superiority over Midway!
I think the end of the Battle of Midway will not be the end of this campaign.
Guadalcanal & New Guinea are good places to add a few next missions with B25, P40, KI61, Beaufighter, Spitfire, etc.
It's clear thar our squadrons will be tranferred to this theater as soon as the recover from the losses of the Battle of Midway.
