This Monday we took the plunge and decided to play WWII. At 5 players (myself, PRS, kugelblitz, Pseudotheist and tuskine) turnout was light, but the level of fun was high!
We knew in advance that Anthony was running late, so we decided to start with a two-on-two dogfight - P-40s versus Zeroes - with the notion that he could join in when he arrived, and the first first shot down would come in as reinforcements for the Americans.
In the WWII version of the game play seems to be more about out-turning your foe. At least, that's my first impression. I know I kept trying to circle around in an effort to bring my guns to bear.
Paul and Dave make a head-on pass at each other. Paul and I, in the P-40s, had taken a few long-range hits from the Zeroes, and they were all zeroes. Anthony has joined in at this time; his plane is off to the right somewhere.
Dave's plane is brought down after receiving fire from mine once and Paul's twice. He rejoins the game as a... a... Hellcat? (I'm lousy at remembering Navy planes.) Anthony, in the green Zero, is passing between Dave and my P-40, as I throttle-up in an attempt to outpace Todd's Zero and lure him into Dave. Meanwhile, Paul's P-40 come around for a shot on Todd.
Todd breaks toward Dave, leaving me to set myself up for an Immelman. Anthony begins to make a run for Paul's P-40.
Todd's Zero is fairly beat-up at this point, but he is hanging in there.
And then it is over. Paul manages to turn inside of Anthony's Zero, eventually downing him, while I come out of my Immelman and finish off Todd's Zero.
The next mission was quite different - Stukas!
