Hearty congratulations to the philanthropy of Mr Kerry Stokes AC for his generous donation to the AWM.

I hope there are families who can recognise a relative 'brought back to life' through these images. Vignacourt is a village to the NW of Amiens on the Somme, so would have seen many Allied troops transiting through during the Great War.

Amazing find. Does the term "Lost Diggers" refer to sappers/miners or to the fact they fought in trenches?

    Karl,

The term 'Digger' is a colloquialism for Australian or New Zealand soldiers, coined in the First World War and still in use to this day (at least to refer to Australians; New Zealanders tend to go more by 'Kiwi'). It has no reference to a particular branch of service or employment.
