The Russians had 74 of these, some from lend ease and some from shuttle raids on Germany.

The data I can find online, quoting published sources, says the Russians never has more than 23, and all of those were rebuilt from units left behind after the (inevitable) failure of Operation FRANTIC.

Similarly, the Soviets also used a handful of B-24s acquired the same way; plus a couple of Lancasters left over from the efforts to sink _Tirpitz_.

There's a book which lists the "Soviet" B-17s -- Red Stars 4 - Lend-Lease Aircraft in Russia by C-F Geust and G Petrov ISBN 952-5026-23-X -- but the cheapest copy I can find is $450.

    Waste not, want not.
Still, I don't know how many people are going to do Soviet repaints of their long awaited B-17s.

I'd probably do a German-captured one first, truth to tell.
