Thread: Ambush Over the Pacific

    Default Ambush Over the Pacific

I thought I would post some photos of models made by different manufacurers together so that their compatability can be seen. The models are a Model Power Betty, two Nexus Zeros, and four New Ray P-38 Lightnings. The Lightnings have had some minor repainting to give each one a different appearance. I put them in a combat scenario to show how they would look in a game.

A Betty being used as a transport is joined by two Zero escorts.

The Lightnings spot the Japanese aircraft and dive with the sun to their backs to engage.

The Japanese, blinded by the sun, are unaware of the Lightnings until they are engulfed in a hail storm of 20mm cannon and .50 caliber machine gun fire.

One Zero bursts into flames while the second Zero starts belching smoke and shedding engine parts, its pilot slumped over after being decapitated by a 20mm round. The Betty's left engine bursts into flames and all three Japanese aircraft are eliminated.

For the price, the New Ray models (at least those close to 1:200 scale) are just great. Love the pics.

I used a Gotha base for the Betty and the bases from other WoG fighters for the P-38s. I look at the information on the airplane cards, even when using official models, instead of their bases when playing, so the information on the bases are usually not that important to me.

Oh my good, what a slaughter.

Nice pictures, Coog. Good to see 1/200 P38s and a 1/200 Betty in action.

This time, make sure the Oregon pilot gets credit for smoking the Hamaki.... >;)

    Very nice description.
I'm very interested in the P-38's.
Can you tell me where are they from?
How can I find them in a web-store? How much they cost?

    Thanks.

The only place I have found them is at a chain of stores through the U. S. called Hobby Lobby. They are 1:200 scale and are part of line of planes produced by a company in varying scales called New Ray. I have gone to the Hobby Lobby web site but have not found them there myself. They cost $5.99 but Hobby Lobby often produces 40% off coupons and I can get them for $3.59. The only problem is that Hobby Lobbys get about only 4 from about 10 types of New Ray models at a time and there is no telling which ones they will be. It took me months to collect 5 of the P-38s checking Hobby Lobbys around much of Texas during my travels around the state. While I can easily find most of the others, the P-38s seem hard to find for some reason. Maybe some of other site members know of a way of getting them.

    Thanks Bobby.
I guess it will be difficult.
I might buy the Lightnings in some other form, from other fabricator and paint them.
