The group is certainly putting together a great collection for next years' commemorations.

I hope the collection stays in Queensland once the shows are done.

<- now picturing a WW1 fighter making the VW Bug "diggadiggadigga" noise... :)

    Thanks for the post Gunners.
It is interesting to see just how many people around the globe still have enough interest in these early planes to spend time and money either restoring or replicating them.

Another local news story with some close up footage of the Fokker D.VIII and Fokker Dr.I, with some WW1 re-enactors for flavour - watching the old blokes try to climb into the cockpit of the D.VIII is a source of some amusement!

I'm not sure I'd have an easy time of it myself...though I'd remember that I didn't need a bayonet in the cockpit

Although there were heavy fighters there were very few 'heavy' fighter pilots for good reason

    Thumbs up

Hoping to get up to Cabulture Aerodrome while I am up here in Qld. for 4 weeks perhaps with Carl if he can make it!

Thanks for another interesting posting Carl.
All in all it looks as if you have got the Centenary well covered Down Under.
It will be interesting if we back here in the Old Country will be able to come up to scratch.

Even Goring was reasonably trim in those days.

The museum is open 9am to 3pm daily Barry, I reckon I'll get a day off towards the end of the week, if that suits you.

Nice one Carl, thanks for that. Just glad he didn't try to manoeuvre himself into the cockpit wearing a Piklehaube and perforating the top wing!

Your comment took me back to the scene in 'Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines' where the character Oberst Manfred von Holstein played to stereotypical camp perfection by Gert Fröbe deflates the balloon with his pickelhaube. They don't make them like that anymore.

The Sopwith Pub would be a great plane for the next WW I series.

Although we've had this typo before it remains an irresistible chance to picture the beer pumps on the edge of the cockpit and the row of upside down bottles on the trailing edge of the top wing.
