Very nice 109s Carl
Very nice 109s Carl
As usual, you have made a very good job of those machines Carl.
I will need to think about some in desert colours when the reprints arrive.
Rob.
Just in time for a BOB game i plan on running later this month. Three 109-E`s. They were painted in 70/ 02 and 65 underside. With gray under the cowling no doubt supposed to be white which matches this profile.
Rich
The 109s look good, Rich. I look forward to seeing them, and you, in person at Guns of August!
Very handsome beasts they are too Richard.
Just one qurestion from a novice. Why three aircraft. I thought that the Germans flew in fours or twos?
Rob.
Lovely job on those 109s, Rich.
Some fantastic paint jobs on the ME109's. I've got some ideas for the 3 I've yet to paint.
I repainted my redecal of Balthasar. Actually bought an extra Bf109 for this repaint but it was a Galland. I thought it was a shame to use this one for repaint so I used my double Balthazar instead.
I have tried to use different type of markers and pens to draw the green lines but none of them could resist against the other products I used. So that idea had to go and I finally ended up painting the green lines by hand.
That is a beautiful repaint! Never seen that livery on a 109 before, but I've quickly fallen for it. Great job!
Very nice Thomas. Is that another Desert scheme?
Would that brown Me 110 convert easily for the Desert?
Rob.
Indeed Rob this another desert scheme. Not my best one but those fine green lines where extremely difficult for me to paint as I'm used of doong nearly everything with airbrush.
The brown Me110 is actually a desert yellow one and should be immediatly ready for battle in the dessert. I've seen a picture here of someone who had pimped his Me110 with brown spots.
Thanks again Thomas.
I'll get my order in then.
Rob.
Thomas, what color did you use for the brown/sand top color? The whole plane is great, but I like the sand color you've got there.
Inspired by our our North Africa missions, Thomas?
A nice repaint!
David
Glad you like them. No bombers in that game for you. See you in two weeks!
Rich
Rob
That is an excellent question. You are correct two Rotte of two planes make a Schwarm. To my dismay i bought three to fill out a second Schwarm, for a total of eight. I should have bought four. I will fill it in with later model 109`s.
Rich
Thomas
That is real beauty! You must have 10/ 10 vision!
Rich
I've used Tamiya desert yellow (XF59) in combination with a brown wash. The paint is acrylic and the wash is enamel. The paint for the was is also from Tamiya and is specially for that but it can be easly made yourself (1 part paint and 7 parts thinner).
@ Sven: Indeed. Had great fun during that mission so decided to create some friends for my desert Bf110 and my Martlet and Beaufighter repaint. I'm working on a larger desert repaint as well which should give a nice target for the allies... Maybe also a desert spitfire or hurricane. But my holiday is almost over and then time becomes limited.
@ Richard: With some help of lenses my eyesight is fine, but without them its rubbish. I'm glad you like it!
My two cents:
I have been told that Germans flew in minimum groups of two. So, I got a set of planes for each color scheme for Galland and Molders, and made wingers for them. This was basically shaving off the existing decals (especially for Horten), and touching up the paint, if necessary. I used Tamiya XF-22 RLM Grey for Hortens, and Tamiya XF-67 for JG53's touch ups (both were a bit dark for the Nexus mini colors, but close enough) The decal colors for the Red 5 was almost exact! Surprise! (Decal Production Issues)
Jagdgeschwader 26 - Messerschmitt BF 109 E-3, Hauptmann Walter Horten
I have heard that Horten actually flew as Galland's wingman during the Battle of Britain, so this is great.
[Edit: Now with a custom card, too.]
However, I have found a picture with Horton in a "White7 III/JG26 (I also found the above marking scheme, and it was easier):
Jagdgeschwader 53 - Messerschmitt BF 109 E-3, Unknown Pilot
I was going to use Feldwebel Hans Kornatz, but he was in the wrong squadron I/JG53, not III/JG53

They came out very nice. Try adding just a little of white to a small paint, see if that tones it down some. Plus paint touch up happens. The secret of different plane markings is simple. They had more planes than pilots. Break your bird, fly another one. A 1944 era 109 pilot said taxing and landing accidents took their toll on 109`s. That and the so called official paint schemes sounded good on paper in some office!
Rich
Just checked this today and those are some outstanding paint jobs by all. Excellent.
Too much information and choice now. I will have to do some research to paint my last 3 ME109's. With Border Reiver out of the way (ie no more Civil War distraction) I can get back to finishing off my 1/144th scale WW2 models for BoB campaign.
I now have two ancient AHM 144 scale 109E`s to build. My friend Jim went to the IPMS nationals and found them. Better yet he found me a Axis decal sheet, with both German and Japanese national markings and body codes. This will allow me to finish my last repaints and build theses!
Rich
Rob and Neil, more help with your mini repainting?
The decals hadn't even set on my Molders "repaint", and I was re-thinking the job. So, I redid the Red 5 to a Black 7, resized and recolored the decal for a better fit:
Jagdgeschwader 53 - Messerschmitt BF 109 E-3, Olt Walter Fiel
[Edit: now with a custom card.]
His plane is not the same color scheme, but the markings in my mini are now closer
If you want lots of examples, I have been using the following site: Adlerhorst Hangar
On this site, are skins for a computer game, but the research on the look of different marks of Bf-109s appears to be very accurate. It includes WWII period photos of the particular planes to corroborate the schemes and markings.
And I'm trying to get the files to do up cards for my Bf-109s, too. Those will follow (shortly?).

You are a veritable goldmine Mike.
Thanks.
Rob.
I bought a couple F-Toys Me-109s off E-Bay, having already bought a package of Sweet models Me-109Gs. Now this is all 1/144 scale WoG stuff. So I had these two different painted F-Toys Me-109s, and I wanted to try to match one each of the Sweet models I had, to each of the F-Toys Me-109s to make two pairs of "team-mates" (as my middle son used to call them). So, here is the first Me-109 I built and painted, and then below that, the F-Toys Me-109 I was trying to match it up with.
So here they are together, now "team-mates".
Here is the other set of "team-mates", the Sweet model I made, followed by the F-Toys Me-109 I was trying to match it up to.
And the two new team-mates together.

Rob, great job matching up your projects! Looking good.
Rob
Fine additions to your collection!
Rich
WOW, I must admit I like the desert/med/balkan camo paint up the best. But both sets are fantastic match ups.
Excellent, Rob. Those desert eagles are very good indeed!
It looks much better than mine one, absolutely. Well done, Rob.
This model brings back some nice memoirs about my first attempts at 1:72 scale models some 40 years ago. It was exactly the same model, black 8 in the same camo scheme by Matchbox (Oberst Schneider, probably). This kind of stuff was not available that time in my country at all, but my parents new my wish list (Me 109, Hurry, Spit, Zero, Mustang) and asked my uncle, a TIR driver, to buy these Matchbox models in Austria. The day I got them was one of the merriest days in my life
Now I can understand how much money my parents spent on them those days.

Here's my AIM Messerschmitts 109E to fight in my campaign.
The AIM minis are really a pleasure to paint.
I aim to have painted them to an acceptable standard to match AIM miniatures...
A Little shark in the skies.
Very nice planes and well painted! Very productive to paint 3 in a row!
Thanks, Thomas.
It is indeed more productive to paint more than one. But also less creative.
Very nice indeed. How many 109's did Japan fly? Any in combat? Must get a couple for Norway. More expense!
See you on the Dark Side......
Very nice paints, Rob and Joaquim.
I like the different schemes for different theaters. The yellow is very striking.
Very tasty Joaquim.
I go away for a couple of days and all this good stuff gets posted.
Rob.

The more that come the better they get nicely done by all of you
Thanks Darell. You're most kind.
Great looking '109s!
If you don't have them, there are now Custom Cards for the JG 27 planes in my Custom Card Album. I couldn't find a pilot for Yellow 7, so if you know it, I can amend the card.
Mike
PS: If others want Custom Cards, I can do them. However, good top-down colour drawings or photographs make the job much easier.
