Default Official Messerschmitt Bf-109 painting thread

Jagdgeschwader 27 - Messerschmitt BF 109 E-4N, Hauptmann Gustav Rödel

Somehow the original picture is gone...

You can see the plane on the left side:

Err, What desert painting contest? Or were you joking?

    MAYBE, we should start one?
    I have a Hs126 I could do (http://www.shapeways.com/model/52297...el-hs-126.html).

    I will even donate a Beaufort (1/144) or Blenheim Mk.I or Mk.IV (1/144 or 1/200) as a prize

    Didn't found smaler ones.

One of the British forum members gave me informations about 1/200 Decals.

    Have to do some research...

    It was Chris (Boney10)!

I'm prepping two Bf109's to be repainted as well. One will be in white for winter flight against the russian Yak's the other i'm still thinking. Could be desert but the painting of Galic is also very nice and very recognizable on the game surface.
Are all the decals new on you repaints or didn't you paint around some of them. My plan for the winter one is to tape of al the decals and airbrush it with streaks of thin white so that the underneath camouflage still is a bit visible. So i'll try to paint it like they did in the war.

As this is the Official repaint thread, here goes my Desert Duel entry. Thanks Sven for inspiration

    A nice one, Andrzej.

I've got another ME 109 for repaint. Maybe I'll do a winter camouflage Messerschmitt for eastern front scenarios.

I finally finished my winter-camo Bf109. It took a while since I didn't find a paint-scheme which was feasible and nice. An overall white finish just didn't do it for me. Then I stumbled upon the scheme of Erich Hartmann. I know my model is not 100% exact the same as Erich Hartmann's machine but its more than fine for me. This is the result...

The crosses and the black arrow on the aft fuselage are Shed decals. All the rest (the black tulip on the nose, red hart and yellow V on the bottom) is painted. Started with stripping the model of its decals and most of the paint. Than gave it a base coat of light grey. Afterwards the whole model was painted black. Now the tulips where taped off. Next a light coat of white was applied to give the grayish look it has now. After all other painting was done the tape for the tulip was removed and the most forward part of the nose was painted bright white.
Horror almost occurred when I applied the wrong product to the decals and some of the paint on both the wings was damaged. After it dried I started the restoration process which turned out fine although it stays visible around the decals.

Although I'm not quite sure if Hartmann used an Emil in that particular winter "tulip" scheme, the mini looks perfect anyway! The painted black tulip is just an amazing paint job. I must tell you that in his Bf 109 G-14 I built in 1:72 scale the tulip is a decal and does not look better than yours. Bravo.

I'm sure he didn't. My info says it was the G6 he flew in these colors. I'm not going for 100% historically accurate minis and I think this is just a nice painting for on the gaming table. Once focussed on the painting scheme I just wanted a mini painted like this. The mini also serves well as a starting point to tell the story of Hartmann and his 352 victories. And if its used to draw new people to the game, who wouldn't want to fly with the "ace of aces" then.

    Himmel, Darell!

This a beautiful Messerschmitt. ...and you didn't forget the Jaggeschwader 27 Insignia!

A lot of details (nose, canopy...). Too bad this one didn't get ready in time. I'm shure it would have made it under the first three places!

    Great work!

Why does the Axis get all the good Cammo jobs again in this war?

The Brits just seem to be very boring camo painters . However they have won the war twice....

That is true, including Italian and Japanese planes.

That has much to do with air superiority.

If you haven't that much planes - you need to camouflage them.

Very clean lines, and judging by the remark in post 41, they had plenty of planes and thus did not need to cammo them.

Not really a repaint but more a re-decal. All decals are home-made. I had decals from Shed but they were to big for my liking and not 100% the same as these. I've used my double Bf109 of Balthasar for this. Thought it would be an easy job but wasn't at all.

Thank you! It's only one re-decal . The Bf109 on the left is the original Balthasar.
