Oops!
Should really be in the History section...

Looks very interesting Sean. Could be invaluable into giving an insight into a theatre of the war which is often neglected with regard to information on air activities.
Thanks for the heads up.
Rob.

Richthofen's demise as mentioned in Australian FC's history.
I just picked out a random chapter and found the description of the Richthofen shooting down. It is well written and interesting. After a description of flying circuses it moves on to the incident. (Pages 249 to 252 in the original book. Third page in the chapter) The chapter looks at Australian circus Nr2 squadron. Note the footnotes (aufgepasst v.z Guttenberg, so sieht wissenschaftliche Arbeit aus), they include the original profession of the source!! Here is the link to the chapter XV III.

Note that the surrounding information on the number of planes in a patrol, the length of time spent in the air and operational targets in relation to ground movements are also mentioned during the course of the chapter. Great stuff!! Straight to the point.

As usual awesome find by a member of the Drome.

A newer modern History of the AFC
G'day All!
For anyone with a keen interest in the Australian Flying Corps & particularly the Middle Eastern activities as well as the Western Front I would really recommend a recent book by Aussie Historian Michael Molkentin.
The tite is "Fire in the Sky" A history of the AFC in WW1.
The book was reviewed by Baldrick back on 20th Jan 2012 & can be obtained from Amazon & other sources quite cheaply as it is in Trade Paperback size. Michael accessed many memoirs, letters etc as well as Official Records & it is really an excellent read.
The story of how the Aussies agressively flew the RE 8 in 1918 makes for great reading.

That book looks fantastic, there's some great reviews out for it too. I think I may go and spend some birthday monies
