That's a great looking Kissenberth! *sigh* Makes me wish Ares had gone ahead with their original plans and given us his Camel...

I have the decals and the planes, but have not done my B Flight yet Darell. I just hope they look as good as yours.

I finally got Donald Maclaren done.....top camel ace. He arguably should have been in the set.

This was a Barker repaint. I repainted the green with Humbrol 75 ( a tip from Nightbomber). I painted around the roundels so they are still original Ares decals. Also the bottom of wings, machine guns and wheels/supports are original Ares. The tail wing is also an Ares original with a little touch up of the red.
The rest of the decals (fuselage, letter "U" upper and lower and top of fuselage) I made. I did make a decal sheet including the upper and lower roundels and tail but did not need them.
With that said, using the Barker plane made this a fairly easy repaint. Since I make my own decals most of the time, that was where most of the hours were spent on this repaint.
I used mirco set for the first time when applying the decals and really liked the results.

Even got a custom bio card done. Now if I can twist Mike's (OldGuy59) arm to make me a plane card it will be complete.

What method do you use to obtain the white decals for the letters?

Thank you Ian.....appreciate the rep points.

Rob, to answer your question I use white decal paper and "invert" so to speak the letter.
What I do is pick a color (using the paint program on your OS) and fill it in around the letter or image that is white. In this case I picked a color that was very close to the paint color. Once the decal is printed and ready to use, I trim out the white letter/image as close as I can.

After applying the decal/dries, I touch up over the decal and around the lettering.
Like I mentioned in my post above, I used the mirco set for the first time. This has made a big difference in my method. Before some of the decals I would touch up using this method would still show the line or layer of the decal. The micro set looks to have solved that problem for me.

Anyone interested in painting up Maclaren's plane and print or want to try to print out your own decals, I uploaded the decal sheet I made up and used on this plane.

    You know how it is...

You wake up in the morning feeling decidedly under the weather
even if it is self induced from a previous night in the Mess!
Feeling a little down, soar head and possibly black and blue.....

So with SWMBO out shopping with step daughter...
yes I know it Sunday dear,....but never the less.....

I took a while to peruse some of the other forums on the
Aerodrome site and came across unique 'aircraft cards'
and well, it just had to be done........

A very unique one and authentic.
K.M.Murray's personal plane. One and only Camel in Polish Air Forces in the war of 1920.
Chequers pattern on the upper wing is original and strange a bit, but a photo taken after the crash reveals it clearly.
Only idividual number code is missing on repaint, but who could have such small decals.
Special thanks go to Zoe Brain, who provided me with excellent "Kościuszko" Sqn. insignia.

    Sopwith Camel of Ken Unger:
My Unger repaint was inspired not only that he was a US flyer (flying for the British) but the couple of scrapes he had with Fokker Dr.I Ace Josef Jacobs; who is one of my favorite pilots.

Above is a nice painting from O'neil Avaition Art of their dogfight. Their is a neat little story that goes with the painting.
    http://www.michaelonealaviationart.com/madison_ace.html

Unger’s plane is a repaint of a Barker Camel which is the choice of Camel repaints. After prepping the airplane, repainted it with Humbrol acrylic #75…..painted around the wing roundels and tail marking.

Did not paint the underside, but did touch up under the upper wing at the wing struts with Humbrol acrylic #103.
Repainted the machine guns with aprx. a 3 part Vallejo white and 1 part Model Master gun metal. Repainted the prop with some mysterious brown I had mixed from another project. So wheels, struts and underside of plane are original paint. So, overall a fairly easy repaint.

Created a decal sheet which I have uploaded in the Hobby section. The decal sheet has all the decals needed including the roundels (upper & lower). I did not use all of them, as like I mentioned above I painted around the roundels and tail marking but for those that may not want to paint that close, I included them in the sheet.

For the white circle, I took a 3 ring paper punch and “Punched” out a circle of the white decal paper. It is the same size as the decal I created on the sheet. After applying the decal, and sealing it I noticed that the green bleed through in spots. Instead of trying to remove it at this point since I sealed it with the bonder, I put a coat of the Vallejo white on it, sealed it and applied another white circle decal over the top of it and resealed again. My fear was a build up would occur but it seemed to turn out good. I also use Mirco Set on all my decals now so that is a big help. If I had to do it all over again, I would have used the paper punch on some sticky label paper, took the label paper with the hole in it and used it as a stencil and just painted on the dot.
Overall, I liked how it turned out.

    Some custom cards:

I also forgot to mention that the roundel on the fuselage and the wing struts are factory finish.

Another thing was during the prepping; I used a sanding pencil and lightly went over The white bands that were on the fuselage to smooth them out a bit.
