James, who's the maker of that Albatros D.V?

Still a very crisp painting job.
You can be proud of that James.

Thanks, James.
I use paper models so...
I've done 2 Nieuports and 4 SE5a and they seem to be pretty sturdy. I have not gamed with them yet but have dropped a couple due to the old man shake, and every time they come up unscathed. I'm sure they aren't as sturdy as the Ares models, but once the paint is on they are pretty tuff.
I've switched bonds to the stronger Tamiya cement and I'm very impressed with the sturdiness of them. I've also started drilling deeper holes for the struts and braces.
Right now I'm having a bloody hard time with applying "Signal Green" to Hippel's machine .......the stuff just won't lay very well It's a stunning colour though, almost Fluo.
Nice Jasta 5, take a look in the Sqn/Jasta thread to see my Jasta 5.
I have a number of cards for the Jasta if you want them
John many thanks.... I'm actualyl about to break out the Macro lens and flash for the one I finished while the drome was down..... watch this space!
Another bit of smashing work James.
I must get back to some WWI repaints as soon as Doncaster is over.

Very nice James.....love the colors on this one.
Many thanks all, the signal green on Hippel's tail was a real pain to lay, it doesn't dilute very well so impossible to airbrush on and you need a lot of layers to get it to hold the correct colour.
So that is the last of my Valom DV.a kits really enjoyed them and they have taught me a lot of new skills as well as a good platform to refresh old ones.
when I get home I will make a start on my final Jasta 5 aircraft.

I'm getting a sense of those spirals being something I will have to master before too long James.

Tamiya 1mm, 2mm and 3mm masking is your friend..... the tricky part is knowing how much pull they can take when laying them before snapping off before you have finished the spiral!
The final Jasta 5 is also a whirly bird!
Very nice!!!! I think repaints must be much harder to work with than kits!!
Very nice work James. Truly striking aircraft and they give the impression that the true aircraft must have been a sight to behold.
Lovely work, James and Mark!
If I ever finish my Fokkers, I've got to get back to Albatri.
Yet another aircraft with smart clean lines Eric.
Can't wait to see these birds in action.

Great looking work Mark and Eric.
Peter, the Vallejo Fluo paints are notorious for not going on very well and I found that it's best to put the base colour you want down first then put the Fluo on over a few layers rather than rely on the Fluo colour itself.
One of my absolute favorite WWI planes (Hippel's Alb D.Va). Where did you get the decals? I must have, to add to my Jasta 5.
Oh... nicely done!
Chris
Great work Eric.....love the color scheme.
Just brilliant!
Top notch James - I'll get me coat !

lovely! im not a fan of the woodgrain look but i like it on this one. it looks so nice!
Beautiful paintjob on this D.V! Well done.
What a Rep magnet! Stunning job James!
As I said in the other thread James, amazing work! You need to setup a solid white background to photograph the finished minis on though. I wrote a How To some time ago that shows a simple setup that works well.
Very nice work all. The Albatros, all models, are my favorite aircraft and you all have done such nice work. Thanks for sharing.
Ok here is the last of my Valom 1/144 Albatros DVa

The paint scheme is totally fictitious but based around the real colour scheme of Lt Rauschke's (LandFlugzeug 70) Fokker E.III. I decided to take the scheme a step further and experiment with the method of offset lines to create optical illusions to put off enemy pilots aiming. This was done by also painting the white lines on the lower wing surface.
The staggered effect on the wings and the diagonal line on the fuselage make the frame structure looked warped which was in keeping with other aircraft designs of the times. The fuselage was painted natural wood then given the oil paint wood effect, much finer and lighter than the previous Udet model, also this time I went for a laminated effect on the air screw and then again used Burnt Seana on the blades to merge and soften the look, unlike previous models I didn't varnish as I felt it too garish for the scale and went with a satin finish.
The rigging used EZ line pulled very tight to thin it even more and get the scale right, the lines are correct in comparison to the rigging on the Wingnut Wings Albatros rigging guide.
