Nothing for a year and then 3 flights in such a short time.
Chris really like the Vampire plane, but I was always a big fan of the Hammer Dracula films when I was younger.
Gary a great job on these planes from 29 squadron.
Gary my Rep gun is jammed, how can that be.
Thanks, Gary -- we need a vampire emoji
Nice job Gary!
Nieuport 17 Sottotenente Giannino Ancilotto 80a Squadriglia
Ares N17 Baracca
Wings and Fuselage - GW Runefang Steel (touch ups where needed)
Propeller and Struts - Foundry Chestnut 53a
Circle and Star - Foundry Scarlet 38b and Valom White 70.951
Decals - MiscMini
These Ares Baracca models have quite a lot of defects, especially on the upper wings where the cabane struts are not fitted and leave two distinct holes.
Couldn't find a suitable red circle or white star so ended up overpaitning a Italian red roundel and hand painting the star. Then noticed a post a few pages back from Camelbeagle that combined Russian and Japanese markings to produce a great result. May have to try that out but this will do in the meantime.
This is the first of three Italian N17s on the painting board. The others will follow on in a day or two.
Nice!

Looks great, Gary
Don't think it's a defect, Gary - they're for something (but don't ask me what!). Take a look at this pic, you can see them clearly on the top plane:

Look a bit like FM straps in a car !

Nice! I always like a good Nieuport 17!!!!
Yeah we do !
They're the Aileron cranks, according to a cutaway diagram I found - they are connected to the ailerons leading edge by 30mm Dural 'torque' tubes & transfer motion of the stick to actuate the ailerons; appears they may go around the rear spar, hence the ring shape.

This plane was one of the few N17s that was fitted with both a synchronised Vickers MG and an overwing Lewis gun on a Bowden mount.
Another goodie, Gary
Another bello Nieuport Gary.

I'm seeing double!
Another corker!

Nieuport 17 - 80a Squadriglia - Maresciallo (sub-officer) Ernesto Cabruna
Ares N17 Baracca
Fuselage, upper wings and tail - GW Runefang Steel
Lower wings - Foundry Scarlet 38b, Bright Green 25a and Vallejo White 70.951
Propeller and struts - Foundry Chestnut 53a
Decals - Mismini
80a Squadriglia insignia was apparently a red star on a white circle within a black border. However I couldn't find an image of Cabruna's N17 so instead I used the red heart and white circle taken from his SPAD VII when flying with 77 Squadriglia. If anyone has more infomation on his N17 I'd be very grateful.
This is the last N17 (at least for a while) but I will be painting some more SPADS both VIIs and XIIIs.

You're on a roll, Gary! Very nice
Another spiffy Italian. Well done Gary.
Awesome Gary -as usual
From Italian Aces of World War I and their Aircraft, p. 449. (Gentilli, Iozza, and Varriale; Schiffer Military History)
The picture shows a Nieuport 17 in white/silver with a solid red star (no border), normal rotation, about half way down the fuselage, no Vickers, top-wing Lewis, normal Italian underwing (red left), rudder green-white-red front to back. (The picture referred to is reproduced on p.149.)Profile 18: Nieuport 17, serial number unknown, maresc. Ernesto Cabruna, 80Ş Squadriglia, summer/autumn 1917: The caption of a photo describe[s] this aircraft as that of maresciallo Cabruna, while visiting his old reconnaissance unit, the 29Ş squadriglia, in Cavazzo Carnico. The Nieuport is a French-built aircraft, without serial number on the tail. On the fuselage is visible the Red Star, the unit badge. Only the Vickers gun shortage justify[sic] the use of the armament of the Lewis gun mounted over the top plane. Cabruna was transferred to 80Ş squadriglia in September or October 1917 and the photo was taken in this period, before the Italian retreat to the Piave.
Tremendous trio, Gary!

Very nice!
Here are a couple of Czar Romanov Russian Empire Nieuport 23.
Vallejo Aluminum on fuselage.
Vallejo Black on tail.
Vallejo White to paint out roundels.
Roundels are Miscmini decals.
Banner decal is home made.
Skull and Bones on tail are Miscmini.
Skull and Bones on top of plane are from the Nieuport 11 Valom kit.
Roundel and Skull/Bones are two different Misc mini decals. I put the roundel down, then the skull and bones on top. Turned out real good,
The first here is inspired by a Nieuport 11 scheme. I really like it, and thought it would look good on a Nieuport 23.
The second here is a scheme that I saw in one of the Russian Ace books that I have looked at. Turned out good as well.
Really nice, Dan!
Dan - perfect paint scheme for Halloween
