Thread: Pomilio question.

  1. #1

    Default Pomilio question.

I have seen some pictures with a Pomilio PE with an overwing machine gun mounted.
Can any of you chaps tell me if this was standard, and if so what make of gun it might be?
I do not want to make an error on the machine that I am constructing at the moment if I can avoid it.
Also did it have forward pointing guns on or in the fuselage?
    Thanking you in anticipation.
    Rob.

Sure it was a PE Rob? I'm not an expert on things Italian, but I think the PE had a synchronised forward gun. Earlier Pomilios (PC) had an overwing gun

It looks like a Lewis mg to me.
    And this

Stats give two guns one 8mm and the other 7.7mm which I think is .303in

    From http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...rcraft-1914-19

Pomilio PC & PD - Overwing Revelli with a second for the observer on at Eteve-style mount
Pomilio PE - Synchorised MG (no type stated, suggest Vickers) and 1 or 2 Lewis guns on a Scarff ring for the observer

From Linz's 2nd link, I suspect they may have slipped their pictures down one box as for the PD 'other changes included a revised engine cowling, in which the cylinder heads were enclosed in louvred panels...'.

Bear in mind that there were a lot of non-standard mounts. I've seen pix of N-11s with 2xlewis overwing, RE-8s likewise. And a Brisfit with 4 Lewis guns on its undercart for ground strafing.

    Thanks Linz.
My Italian was up to it.
The picture of the PE? with top gun mounted as you show was one of the pictures I saw that made me wonder. In view of Balder's observation, I think I will just go with the model as it comes.
