Thread: Aircraft Identification Codes - Which Font?

Question Aircraft Identification Codes - Which Font?

I am just about to start the process of beautifying my BoB aircraft.

I have the national markings but my preferred squdron identifications are elusive, so armed with decal paper I am preparing the correct letter combinations.

Has anybody else done this for the official aircraft yet and if so, what font and sizes did they find worked best?

I'm not worried so much about historical accuracy but what looks right.

Dont know what decals you have or if you making your own.
Take a look at Shed models decals, either direct or from Helmet models, they do a sheet of letters and numbers for 1/200 and in various sizes, a bit expensive but you get loads.
I used these on my Spits

If you are doing your own, numbers on the tail are usually either 3 or 4 point. I always print a few in 3, 4, and 5 then see which fits the best. For Wing Letters, trial them on paper first before printing as the size of wings vary quite a lot.
Remember that the Herr Oberst makes quite a lot of Letters, as does Dom.

For the decals I worked on for the Jasta 5 Albatros' I used Swiss 721 BT:
On the wings the letters were 5mm high.
